UW-La Crosse 11, UW-Stout 3 | UW-La Crosse 5, UW-Stout 4
MENOMONIE (April 24, 2022) - UW-Stout got a little closer to getting an actual home game, but could not parlay the day into wins and UW-La Crosse defeated the Blue Devils 11-3, 5-4, at Wakanda Park Sunday.
The Blue Devis were scheduled to host the Eagles at Nelson Field, but an overnight rain forced the games to the city park field.
On a chilly, windy day, Stout (15-13, 10-8 WIAC) had to play catch-up all day. In the first game, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run single by Mac Born. The Eagles' Connor Roesler made it a 3-0 game in the sixth inning before Stout's
Charlie Szykowny hit his first of two home runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 3-1. La Crosse got that home run back on a home run by Tim Urlaub in the seventh. Born would drive in another run in the inning for a 5-1 lead, then jump out to an 11 run lead with a six run eighth inning.
Szykowny hit a two-run shot in the eighth for the final score.
The Eagles (14-13, 9-9 WIAC) traded runs for much of the second game. La Crosse jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Stout cut the in half when Szykowny got caught in a rundown in the bottom of the first to allow
Levi Wilson to score.
Stout's
Riley Boushack tied the score in the second inning on his first home run of the season. The Eagles regained the lead in the third on passed ball.
Stout tied the score at 3-3 when
Colin Hageman hit his second home run of the season, this one in the fifth inning. Stout took the lead in the eighth inning when
Drew Ries grounded out to drive in
Levi Wilson from third.
The Eagles hit two home runs in the top of the ninth inning to take what would prove to be the final 5-4 score.
The teams are scheduled to complete their four-game schedule Monday, April 24, when the team wrap up their weekend with a 10 a.m. scheduled start.
