Stout records 21 hits over doubleheader, but still drop both games to Pointers

UW-Stevens Point 11, UW-Stout 5 | UW-Stevens Point 16, UW-Stout 6

STEVENS POINT (April 19, 2022) - Averaging a bit over 10 hits a game is going to win a lot of baseball games. That wasn't the case Tuesday as UW-Stout spread out 21 hits over a doubleheader, but could not take a win out of Stevens Point, falling to the Pointers twice.

The Blue Devils accounted for 21 hits and 11 runs on the day, but UW-Stevens had 26 hits and 27 total runs and the Pointers bested UW-Stout, 11-5, 16-6, Tuesday, at Zimmermann Field in Stevens Point.

The Blue Devils (15-11, 10-6 WIAC) never held a lead at any point over the two games. Stout matched the Pointers (20-4, 11-3 WIAC) through the first three innings of the second game with each team scoring twice in the first and once in the third. The Pointers added a run in the fourth and two in the fifth for a 6-3 lead. Stout pulled to within two runs, 6-4, in the bottom of the fifth, but the Pointers scored five in the sixth inning. Stout collected 12 hits to the Pointers' 17.

In the opener, Stevens Point scored twice in the third and twice in fourth for a 4-0 lead, but Stout cut the lead in half with a two-run fourth inning. From the fifth inning on, Stevens Point outscored Stout 7-3. Both teams had nine hits apiece.

On the day, both Jacoby Endreas and Joel Thimsen went 4 for 8. Endreas was 3 for 5 in the first game with two RBI, both coming on his fifth home run of the season. Thimsen was 3 for 4 in the second game with an RBI. Parker Hagebock drove in three runs in the second game.  Levi Wilson was 2 for 4 in game two.

Stout's Charlie Szykowny hit his 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh inning of game one.

Stout is scheduled to host UW-La Crosse, Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24.
