Charlie Szykowny (Sr, Palos Heights, Ill) was recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) after a hot week at the plate during the Blue Devils' spring break trip to Fort Myers, Fla. Szykowny received honorable mention hitter honors by the national organization.
In games from March 14-20, Szykowny batted .500 (16-for-32) with 16 RBI, scored 13 runs, punched out five home runs, and had five doubles. Szykowny hit a home run in five consecutive games last week and had six multi-hit outings, including a pair of two-hit games against fourth-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University. Went 4-for-6 with three RBI against Skidmore College (New York) on March 14, in what marked the first game of the home run streak. Hit a grand slam against Lasell University (Massachusetts). Szykowny posted a slugging percentage of 1.108 for the week.
Brandies University's Mike Khoury batted .765 (13-for-17) and posted a slugging percentage of 1.824 to earn Division III hitter of the week honors.
Earlier in the week, Szykowny was selected as the WIAC/Kwik Trip position player of the week. The Blue Devils (5-5) are scheduled to open WIAC play this weekend when they travel to Mauston to play UW-Platteville in four 9-inning contests, Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27.
