CLERMONT, FL (March 17, 2022) - After a day off, the Blue Devils drop both games on Thursday in Clermont, Florida. Stout's comeback attempt wasn't enough, falling to Franklin & Marshall 3-2. Stout was unable to get going offensively against Springfield, losing 7-0 in their second game of the day.
The first inning was over quickly against Franklin & Marshall College. Both teams only had three at-bats each. The Diplomats got the scoring started in the top of the second inning, recording two runs followed by another in the top of the third. Down by three, Stout looked to rally in the fourth.
Alexa Anderson got Stout on the board after stealing home off a wild pitch.
Kayli Pfeffer batted in
Aliyah Smetana to bring Stout within one.
Stout was unable to complete the comeback though, as the Diplomats held Stout to only two hits for the rest of the game. Maddee Kleinschmidt pitched the whole game for the Blue Devils, allowing only six hits.
Stout was unable to get started offensively against Springfield. After four innings, the Blue Devils only trailed by three, 3-0. But Springfield extended their lead with a huge fifth inning. Springfield's Breannah McCann hit a home run with the bases loaded to extended their lead to seven, 7-0. Stout was unable to answer back and Springfield went on to get the win.
Stout will play their last set of games in Clermont, Florida tomorrow, starting with Western New England at 1:45 pm (ET) followed by Millikin University.
