CLERMONT, FL (March 18, 2022) - Stout softball finishes their Spring Break trip 5-5 as they score four unanswered runs to defeat Western New England, 4-2 but fall to Millikin, 12-1.
Western New England jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Stout answered back with some strong defense, giving the Golden Bears only seven at-bats in the next three innings.
Kate Funk got Stout on the scoreboard with a solo homerun in the top of the fourth, her second of the season. Stout would go on to score three more runs in the top of sixth, with RBIs from
Ashley Jacobson,
Maggie O'Brien, and
Kayli Pfeffer.
Stout was able to shut-out the Golden Bears to close out the game and secure the win.
Anna Blanford recorded the pitching win, allowing only three hits and recording four strikeouts.
Stout struggled in the second game, facing the 16-2 Millikin Big Blue. Millikin got their bats going early, earning seven runs in the first three innings while holding Stout to only 12 at-bats. With the score 7-0 going into the top of the seventh, Millikin tacked on five more runs to extend their lead to 12-0. Stout was finally able to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh.
Taylor Mancl grounded out into a double play, but
Alyssa Albrecht was able to reach home to prevent the shut out.
Stout will get a week's rest after their 10 games in only six days. Next on the schedule is a double-header match-up at the College of St. Benedict on Saturday, March 6. The first game is set to get underway at 1 pm.
