FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 16, 2022)-Â The UW-Stout baseball team got back to their winning ways on Wednesday morning as they topped Saint Michael's College 14-8.
The Blue Devils were lead by
Jack Schirpke who was 3 for 5 with a home run and 6 RBI. The Blue Devils recorded the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on a
Joel Thimsen ground out, scoring
Colin Hageman. The Purple Knights would answer with six runs in the second and two more runs in the third to take an 8-1 lead. It was all Blue Devils after that.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning, Schirpke would pick up his first two RBI of morning, scoring
Levi Wilson and Thimsen.
TJ Carlson would collect an RBI on a sacrifice fly out to left field, scoring
Justin Sedin. The Blue Devils would keep scoring as Hageman reached base on an infield single, scoring Schirpke, followed by a two run blast byÂ
Charlie Szykowny.
In the top of the fifth inning, Sedin singled in Wilson to even the score 8-8.
The Blue Devils would bust out again in the sixth inning scoring fives runs to make the score 13-8. After Sedin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Schirpke would sail a ball over the right field fence for a grand slam. The Blue Devils would add on another run in the eigth inning on a Hageman sacrifice fly. The bullepen held serve in the ninth to secure a 14-8 win.
The win is the second on the young season for the Blue Devils.
Brock Burg started on the mound, giving up six runs in an inning in a third.
Reece Lucas surrendered two runs in the third while
Dak Doyle (1-0) and
Connor Hemme would shut the door, not allowing a run over the final five innings. Doyle picked up his first win of the season, striking out two and walking zero over three innings of work.
The Blue Devils are back in action tomorrow as they face Lasell University in a double header.
