After a close loss to Wooster, the Blue Devils defeat Plattsburgh State, 9-4

CLERMONT, FL (March 14, 2022) - Stout was unable to complete the comeback against Wooster, falling 8-6, but they were able to bounce back from the loss and defeat Plattsburgh State, 9-4, on the second day of their Spring Break trip in Clermont, Florida.

Stout fell behind quickly, as Wooster jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first two innings. Stout was able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the third when Kelly Beck earned her first RBI of the game, bunting in Katelyn Belleau.

After only facing three batters in the bottom of the third, the Blue Devils would start to mount a comeback. The top of the fourth saw the Blue Devils scoring five runs on only three hits. Beck recorded her second RBI of the game, bunting in Korin Hall. Emma Muehlenbeck and Hall also recorded RBIs, closing the Wooster lead to one, 7-6. The Fighting Scot's would go on to score in the bottom of the fourth, finishing out the game only allowing two Blue Devil hits.

The second game saw Stout falling behind again, but this time their defense held Plattsburgh State to only one run in the first inning. Shannon Jones opened up the scoreboard for the Blue Devils, batting in Muehlenbeck in the bottom of the third. Grace Vowel recorded her first RBI of the game the next inning, giving the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead.

Stout then extended their lead with a huge fifth inning. Shannon Jones and Kate Funk hit back-to-back doubles, followed by Vowel earning her second RBI and Ava Williams hitting a two RBI single. This inning extended Stout's lead to 7-1. The Cardinals looked to make a comeback, closing the gap with three runs in the top of the sixth, but the Blue Devils answered back with two runs of their own, securing the 9-4 win.

Stout will head out tomorrow for their third day of action, taking on Lasell University at 10:15 (ET) immediately followed by a match with Macalester University.
