UW-Stout 6, Hamline University 3
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (February 26, 2022) - UW-Stout tennis opened the spring season with a 6-3 win over the Hamline University, Saturday at Lifetime Fitness in Bloomington, Minn.
The Blue Devils (6-5) received two forfeits from the Pipers, but still won 4-3 in contested action. Stout won the first three singles.
Lauren Couves ran her season record to 7-3 in dual matches with a three-set, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6, win over Lily Vang at No. 1 singles.
Freshman
Ellie Becker fought off Taylor Vyskocil at No. 2 singles. After a tight 7-6 first set win, Becker turned to domination, not giving up a point in the second set with a 6-0 win.
Anna Kent's No. 3 single match was the last singles match off the court, with Kent prevailing 6-4, 6-3.
Emma Benjamin was the recipient of the forfeit win at No. 6 singles. Both of Stout's single losses were tight games.
Kyrstin Hanson lost to Taylor Hopkins at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-2.
Madeline Binczak had a three set loss, winning the first set 6-2, but falling 6-1 in the second set and fell 10-5 in the third set tie-breaker.
In doubles, Couves and Becker downed Hopkins and Rubbelke, 8-5. Benjamin and
Macy Hanson took the No. 3 doubles win by forfeit. Kent and
Kylie Rennie dropped an 8-3 decision to Vang and Vyskocil.
Stout returns to action Sunday, Feb. 27 when they travel to NCAA Division II St. Cloud State.
