Box Score MENOMONIE (February, 19 2022) - The Blue Devils got within one goal going into the third period, but Superior's four goals in the first period seemed to be enough as the Yellowjackets defeated Stout 7-4. The Blue Devils scored four goals in the second period to make the game 5-4 going into the third period. Superior scored four goals in the first period, one goal in the second, and two in the third.
In the first period, Superior (14-10-2) went on the first powerplay only 2:33 into the game. But UW-Stout killed off the penalty to get back to full strength.
At 4:57 of the first period, Superior got on the board first when Matt Froncois scored the goal to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. Just 22 seconds later, Superior scored their second goal of the night. Same Sterne scored for the Yellowjackets with assists from C.J. Walker and Reed Stark.
Stout went on their first powerplay of the night at 7:46 of the period, but the Yellowjackets killed off the penalty. Superior's second powerplay came at 10:11 of the period and Zach Bannister scored a power play goal. Assists came from Coltyn Bates and Chad Lopez to make the game 3-0.
The Blue Devils went on the powerplay with just under 3:00 left in the first period. Superior made the most of a turnover at neutral ice when Austin Friesen scored a short-handed goal. The short-handed goal was assisted by David Kaplan.
The Yellowjackets led in shots 14-3 at the end of the first period. The score after one period was in favor of Superior 4-0.
In the second period, the game saw five total goals. As the Blue Devils tried to fight back in the game, Stout saw their first chance in the second period. The Blue Devils went on the power play at 2:09 of the period, but Superior killed off the penalty. Only four seconds after the Stout powerplay, the Blue Devils scored their first goal of the game.
Cole Beckstead scored to make the game 4-1 and
Matt Dahlseide assisted on the goal.
At 7:05 of the second period, Superior went on another powerplay. The Yellowjackets had chances to score, but took a penalty during the powerplay. The game saw a four on four for 19 seconds, before a Stout powerplay. During the Blue Devils powerplay,
Logan Nelson scored to bring Stout within two goals.
But just 55 seconds after the Stout goal, Superior found the back of the net once again. Jordan Martin scored for the Yellowjackets with assists from Conor MacLean and Troy Quinn to make the game 5-2.
Only 37 seconds after the Yellowjackets goal, Stout's
Logan Nelson scored his second goal of the night to cut the lead to two.
Caleb Serre assisted on the Nelson goal.
The Blue Devils went on another powerplay with only 1:48 left in the period. During the powerplay,
Raphael Gosselin skated up the ice and got a shot passed Hektor to make the game 5-4.
Tyler Masternak earned the assist on the powerplay goal.
After two periods, Superior was leading in shots 21-14.
In the third period, Superior went on a powerplay at 6:28 of the period, but the Blue Devils hung on and killed off the penalty to keep the game 5-4. But only 30 seconds after the powerplay, the Yellowjackets scored to take a two goal lead. Charles Martin scored the goal with assists from Jordan Martin and Conor MacLean.
As the Blue Devils tried to get back within one goal, Superior went on another power play with 3:24 left in the game. During the powerplay, Stout gained an extra attacker by pulling their goalie, but Superior scored a half ice goal to seal the win. The goal was scored by Gavin Rasmussen to make the game 7-4 as a final.

Zack Cloutier started the game and had 10 saves.
Tyler Masternak went in at the start of the second period and stopped 14 shots. Superior's Myles Hektor stopped 18 Blue Devil shots.
The Blue Devils season ends with a 8-18 record and a 6-9 record in the WIAC. This was the last game for six seniors,

UW-Superior will move on in the WIAC Tournament presented by Culvers when they go on the road to face the #1 seed UW-Stevens Point next Friday and Saturday.
