Blue Devils blanked by the Falcons, fall 1-0

MENOMONIE (December 9, 2022) - In the first matchup against UW-River Falls (4-7-0, 1-4-0 WIAC) and UW-Stout (8-4-0, 2-3-0 WIAC), the Falcons scored a power play goal just midway through the second period to win the game 1-0. 

Both teams skated hard and got a few shots on net in the first five minutes of the game. The Blue Devils found themselves on a power play at 5:22 of the first period, but River Falls stopped the attack. 

At 8:31 of the period, the Falcons went on their own power play, but Stout's penalty kill shut them down. At 14:20 of the first period, Stout went on another power play, but could not find the back of the net. 

At the end of the first period, shots were tied at seven. 

In the second period, River Falls went on their second power play opportunity. This time, the Falcon's buried a power play goal when Dylan Smith beat Green on a back door play. The goal was assisted by Noah Roofe and Burke Simpson at 10:39 of the period.

At 13:34 Stout went on their third power play. The Blue Devils had a few scoring chances, but didn't get on the scoreboard. 

At the end of two periods, the Falcons led the game 1-0. Shots after two periods were 15-11 in favor of River Falls. 

The Falcons went on a power play just 1:37 into the third period. During the power play, Stout took another penalty and the game saw a five on three for 51 seconds. The Blue Devils killed off the first penalty and River Falls skated one man up for 1:09. But Stout killed off both penalties to skate even strength. 

At 15:40 of the period, River Falls went on their fifth power play opportunity, but the Blue Devils kept the game within one goal. 

As time was ticking down, the Blue Devils pulled Green to gain an extra attacker. But the Falcons held on to the 1-0 victory. 

Blue Devil's Dawson Green stopped 27 River Fall's shots. Falcon's Dysen Skinner stopped 13 shots and recorded a shutout. 

Up next for the Blue Devils is another matchup between UW-River Falls in River Falls on Saturday, December 10. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
