MENOMONIE (November 5, 2022) - On a wet and cloudy day at Don & Nona Williams Stadium, the Warhawks of Whitewater rushed for 253 yards to down the Blue Devils 16-7.
UW-Stout (5-4, 3-3 WIAC) received the opening kickoff and would start with the football to open the game. The Blue Devils got one first down, but eventually had to punt to UW-Whitewater (7-2, 5-1 WIAC).
The Warhawks got one first down on their first possession, but had to punt the ball back to Stout. But on the Blue Devils next possession, a three and out concluded their drive.
Whitewater's next possession ended with a Jeff Isotalo-McGuire field goal from 38 yards to give the Warhawks the first score of the game of 3-0.
But the Blue Devils didn't back down. Their next drive took 11 plays for 75 yards and ended with a
Sean Borgerding pass to
Levy Hamer in the endzone to take the lead. The
Luke Cool extra point gave the Blue Devils a 7-3 lead.
After the Stout touchdown, Whitewater's drive ended with a three and out to give the ball back to the Blue Devils. But Stout ended their drive with a three and out themselves.
Whitewater regained the lead after a long drive of 80 yards. Evan Lewandowski found Tommy Coates in the endzone to regain the lead at 10-7.
Stout would have to punt on their next drive, but pinned Whitewater on their own one yard line. But it did not stop the Warhawks from driving down the field.
With time running out in the half, Whitewater got it down to Stout's one yard line with three seconds left in the half. On a third and goal, the Warhawks ran it up the gut, but Stout's defense stuffed the ball carrier to end the half with no time remaining to keep the score at 10-7.
In the second half, Stout and Whitewater both exchanged possessions to start the half.
On Whitewater's second possession in the third quarter, went into the fourth quarter. The Warhawk's drive went for 19 plays and 85 yards for a total of 10:57. The drive ended with a Isotalo-Mcguire 23 yard field goal to go up 13-7.
After the field goal, Stout went on a three and out to give the Warhawks the ball back.
Whitewater's next drive got to Stout's one yard line, but the Blue Devil's stopped the Warhawks for a field goal attempt. Isotalo-Mcguire kicked his third field goal of the game to give Whitewater a two possession lead at 16-7.
Stout tried to claw their way back, but ultimately could not get any points. The final score would end at 16-7 in favor of the Warhawks.
In the air, Blue Devil's
Sean Borgerding finished the game with 229 yards and one touchdown. Whitewater's Evan Lewandowski finished the game with 130 yards and one touchdown. Lewandowski also had 67 rushing yards.
On the ground, Stout's
Arthur Cox led the charge with 29 yards rushing. Cox also had eight catches for 74 yards, leading the team in receiving. Whitewater's Tamir Thomas finished the game with 85 rushing yards and Jaylon Edmonson ended with 83 yards.
Blue Devil's
Levy Hamer finished the game with 54 receiving yards including nine catches and one touchdown.
Parker Fossum also had 43 yards receiving. Warhawk's Tyler Holte led the team in receiving with 42 yards. Tommy Coates also had 40 receiving yards with one touchdown.
On defense, Blue Devil's
Cannon Griner finished the game with 15 total tackles.
Nathan Williamson and
Scott Gustafson finished the game with nine total tackles.
