MENOMONIE (November 22, 2022) - The Blue Devils scored four second period goals to lift themselves to their seventh win of the season. UW-Stout (7-2-0) beat Gustavus Adolphus (0-5-2) by a score of 5-0.
Tyler Masternak recorded his first shutout of the season.
Both teams came out flying trying to find the first goal of the game. It was UW-Stout that got on the scoreboard first. Gunnar Moore went top shelf on the Gustie's goalie to score his second goal of the year.
Cole Beckstead and
Alex Stuckert assisted on the goal and the Blue Devils went up 1-0 at 4:54 of the period.
The first period only saw one goal and no penalties were accounted for. Both teams had eight shots on net in the period.
Stout dominated the second period scoring four goals. The first goal coming at 1:01 of the period when
Caleb Serre tipped a shot from the point to beat the goaltender. The goal was assisted by
Trenten Heyde and
Brendan Boyce. The third goal came just 32 seconds later
Noe Perez scored with assists from
Kobe Keller and
Gunner Moore.
The Blue Devils went on a power play at 9:47 of the second period, but Gustavus killed the penalty off. But at 12:50 of the period, Blue Devil's
Peyton Hart scored to make the game 4-0 in favor of Stout. The fourth goal was assisted by
Cole Beckstead and
Brendan Boyce.
At 16:35 of the period,
Peyton Hart scored his second goal of the night and his eighth of the season to make the game 5-0. The assists came from
Kobe Keller and
Cole Beckstead, Beckstead's third assist of the game.
Shots after two periods were in favor of the Blue Devils 26 to 14.
In the third period, no goals were accounted for. Gustavus went on two power plays, one at 13:20 and one at 18:32 of the period.
After three periods, the score finished 5-0 in favor of the Blue Devils. Masternak recorded 24 saves, including a shutout. Gustavus' Will Pinney finished the game with 29 saves.
The Blue Devils will be off this upcoming weekend, but host Northland College on December 2 and UW-Eau Claire on December 3. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. on both nights.
