UW-Stout 3, Bethel University 2 (OT)
ST. PAUL, Minn (January 7, 2022) -
Alec Skar picked a good time to score his first goal of the season. The UW-Stout senior captain scored 42 seconds into overtime to lift the Blue Devils to a 3-2 overtime win over Bethel University Friday at Bethel University Arena.
After Bethel (8-4-1) came back from a two goal deficit to send the game into overtime, Skar, a defenseman, scored the game-winner taking assists from
Raphael Gosselin and
Dylan Rallis in the 3 on 3 overtime period.
The Blue Devils (4-9-0) took a 2-0 lead into the second period. Stout opened the game by scoring just over three minutes into the game when Rallis scored, with assists by
Noah Carson and
Caleb Serre.
Midway through the second period, Gosselin doubled the score with his third goal of the season and his second power play goal of the season, with an assist by Serre and goalie
Tyler Masternak, his first collegiate assist.
The Royals struck just before the end of the second period, taking advantage on the power play when Jack Bayless scored with 17 seconds remaining in the period. Bethel knotted the score at about the halfway point of the final period on a goal by Dylan Giorgio.
Masternak recorded his fourth win of the season, stopping 34 shots. The Blue Devils handed the Royals' Travis Allen with his first loss of the season. Allen recorded 33 saves.
Stout was 1 for 6 on the power play, while Bethel was 1 for 7 on the power play.
For Gosselin, it was his second two point game of the season. Serre notched two assists for the second time this season and Rallis recorded his second one goal, one assist effort in the last three games.
The victory flipped the score from the season opener when Bethel came to Menomonie and defeated the Blue Devils, 3-2, in overtime.
Tonight's game was delayed because the Zamboni was stuck on the ice during the pregame.
Stout returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 11 when they travel to UW-River Falls for a conference game. Stout was scheduled to travel to Hamline University Jan. 8, but that game was postponed due to safety and health protocols.
