Falcons use a huge second period to power over Blue Devils

RIVER FALLS (January 11, 2022) - UW-River Falls scored the first five goals of the game and went on to a 7-2 WIAC win over UW-Stout at Hunt Arena in a rare Tuesday conference game.
 
The Falcons (9-5-1, 5-2-0 WIAC) scored in the first period then scored the first four goals of the second period before Stout (4-10-0, 3-4-0 WIAC) got on the board.
 
The Falcons got goals from Noah Roofe, Alex Davis, Valentino Passarelli, Dayton Honkanen, Brock Draeger, Noah Ganske, and Gabe Wahl.
 
The Blue Devils got goals from Peyton Hart and Raphael Gosselin. Hart's goal with 16 seconds remaining in the second period ended the Falcons' run. Gosselin scored the final goal of the game at the 14:08 mark of the third period. Gosselin was assisted by Tomi Varjonen.

Both teams scored shorthanded goals, with Hart landing Stout's shorty and Passarelli for the Falcons. Ganske scored a power play goal for the Falcons in the third period. The Blue Devils were 0-3 on the power play, while the Falcons were 1-1.
 
Tyler Masternak was saddled with the loss, giving up the first four goals before giving way to Brennan Kitchen, who surrendered the final three goals. Masternak had 13 saves and Kitchen 10. Dysen Skinner recorded 21 saves for the Falcons.

Stout is scheduled to host Saint Mary's University, Friday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. and St. Olaf College, Saturday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.
