UW-Stout 72, UW-Platteville 74
MENOMONIE (January 22, 2022) - Unable to fend off a late push, the Blue Devils fall to second-ranked UW-Platteville, 74-72, on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Stout (12-6, 3-4) started out the game with a strong push, but Platteville (17-1, 6-1) pushed back with a huge second half run that guided them to the win. The Blue Devils led 38-25 at half time, but the Pioneers outscored Stout in the second half by 15 (49-34).
The Pioneers second-half push was fueled by Quentin Shields, who scored 22 of his 32 points in the second half. Ben Probst also added 16 for the Pioneers.
On Stout's end,
Lovell Williams led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Jon Ciriacks wasn't far behind with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Platteville finished 41-percent from the floor (26 for 64) and 23-percent (6 for 26) from deep. Stout connected on 48-percent of their shots (25 for 52) and managed a 27-percent three point percentage (3 for 11). Both teams struggled from the line as Stout went 68-percent (19 for 28) and Platteville 64-percent (16 for 25). The rebound battle was close with Platteville taking the edge 38-36.
