St. Mary's University 3, UW-Stout 1
MENOMONIE (September 8, 2021) - UW-Stout had a chance to send the match into a five set, but came up just short in a 3-1 loss to St. Mary's University, Wednesday, at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Stout teetered on the edge of the match ending, trailing 23-18. The Blue Devils (4-2) took advantage of a pair of St. Mary's (2-3) attack errors to pull to within 23-20. St. Mary's got to match point on a kill by leading hitter Ciarra McNally, but Stout's
Sidney Hoverman put down a kill to cut the advantage to three points. The Blue Devils lost the match point on a service error.
The Cardinals took the first set, 26-24, but Stout bounced back with a lopsided 25-13 second set to even the score. But St. Mary's returned the favor in the third set 25-17 and captured the match with a 25-21 fourth set win.
The Cardinals' McNally had a huge night with 25 kills and a pair of service aces.
Hoverman led Stout with 13 kills.
Jessica Barr had eight kills and
