Blue Devil spikers split games at Grinnell Invite

Elmhurst 3, UW-Stout 0 | UW-Stout 3, Grinnell College 0

GRINNELL, Iowa (September 3, 2021) - UW-Stout was swept by 25th ranked Elmhurst College, but then bounced back to down Grinnell College, 3-0, in the first day of the Grinnell College/Central College Invitational Friday.

The Blue Jays took down the Blue Devils 25-15, 25-17, 25-22, but Stout roared back to take a 25-15, 25-17, 25-22 over the host Pioneers.

Sidney Hoverman (So, St. Croix Falls) led Stout on the attack in both matches, recording nine kills against Elmhurst and a season-high 21 kills against Grinnell, the most kills by a Stout individual in a single match since Oct. 6, 2018. 

Against the nationally-ranked Blue Jays, the Blue Devils played Elmhurst evenly with 16 tied scores in the first set. Elmhurst took control in the final two sets. 

Lexie Nelson (Sr, St.Michael, Minn) recorded 19 assists against Elmhurst and 26 against Grinnell.

The Blue Devils slide over to Pella, Iowa, Saturday, Sept. 4 for the second day of the tournament where they will face the University of Dubuque and host Central College.
