Macalester scores in 59th minute to hand Stout first defeat

MENOMONIE (September 18, 2021) - Macalester College scored in the 59th minute and hung on to hand UW-Stout their first loss of the season, a 1-0 decision at Nelson Field.

After a scoreless first half, Macalester (4-0-1) hit the Blue Devils (5-1-1) when Ella Thomsen took a pass from Abby Ecker to light the lamp for the only time in the game. 

Stout had some late opportunities, forcing a couple of corner kicks in the final four minutes of the, but could not tickle the twine for the first time this season.

The Scots out-shot the Blue Devils, 7-3, overall and put five shots on frame to Stout's two shots on goal. Stout's Haley Vokaty, who allowed only her second goal on the season, recorded four saves, while Macalester's Dana Gustafson had two saves. 

The goal was only the second goal allowed for the season by the Blue Devils with the other goal coming on a penalty kick against Carleton College, Sept. 7. This was also the first time this season that Stout had fallen behind and was the first time this season Stout did not score a goal. 

Stout returns to action Sunday, Sept. 19 when they travel to Minnesota-Morris for a 3 p.m. contest.
