Blue Devils get shutout win over Cornell College

UW-Stout 1, Cornell College 0

MENOMONIE (September 12, 2021) - Cornell College camped in UW-Stout's defensive zone in the first half, but that turned around in the second half as the Blue Devils went on to capture their fourth shutout of the season with a 1-0 win Sunday at Nelson Field.

While the shots were even in the first half, the tide shifted in the second half with a more aggressive Blue Devlis (4-0-1) attack that gave Stout a 9-2 advantage in the second half, including the only goal of the game.

Carly Kauffman moved the ball around and found Marissa Steele, who buried the shot from on top of the box in the 69th minute.

The Rams (1-4-0) tested Stout's Haley Vokaty in the first half, forcing the freshman to make four first half saves, but none in the second half. Stout out-shot Cornell, 15-8 overall and 9-4 on net. Vokaty earned her second win and her second shutout.

Rachel Younker came off the bench to pressure Cornell goalkeeper Elise Thomason-Larsen with five shots on net and six overall shots. Thomason-Larsen turned away eight shots, five in the second half.  Steele had three shots and one on-frame shot.

Stout is in the midst of a five-game homestand and will host UW-Superior, Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7 and Macalester College, Saturday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m.
