UW-Stout 34, St. Norbert College 14
MENOMONIE (September 11, 2021) - In the home opener of the Blue Devils 2021 season, UW-Stout hosted the Green Knights of St. Norbert. UW-Stout's 21 second half points were enough for St. Norbert as the Blue Devils won 34-14.
In the opening drive for UW-Stout (2-0, 0-0 WIAC), the Blue Devils marched down the field in four plays to take the lead. A Flea Flicker had
Sean Borgerding deliver a pass to
Arthur Cox for a 40 yard touchdown.
Jack Meyer delivered on the extra point to make the score 7-0.
With a couple of back and forth possessions, St. Norbert (1-1, 0-0 NACC) got on the scoreboard. Ben Kohl hit John Bunks in the endzone for a 22 yard pass. On the extra point, Stout's Dan Simon got a hand on the kick and the score remained 7-6 in favor of the Blue Devils.
The second quarter highlighted Blue Devil's kicker
Jack Meyer. With 56 seconds left in the half, Meyer hit a 46 yard field goal to make the score 10-6. With St. Norbert driving to get points before the half, a fumble occurred and the Blue Devils landed on it to get another chance. As time expired in the first half,
Jack Meyer hit another field goal, this one from 52 yards - two yards short of the school record - to give the Blue Devils a 13-6 lead over the Green Knights.
The second half saw a lot more action on the scoreboard. St. Norbert received the kickoff to start the second half, but Stout forced a turnover with a
Cannon Griner interception and took it all the way down to the eight yard line.
Rayshawn Graham capitalized on the turnover and ran into the end zone for a two yard run. Meyer's extra point made the game 20-6.
Just under three minutes from the Stout rushing touchdown,
Rayshawn Graham found the end zone again on a 8 yard run. The made extra point showed a 27-6 score in favor of the Blue Devils.
In the fourth quarter,
Sean Borgerding threw a bomb to
Parker Fossum to complete a 44 yard touchdown. With 14:53 left in the game, the Blue Devils now led 34-6.
With 7:30 left in the game, the Green Knight's Ben Kohl threw a 35 yard touchdown to Parker Lawrence.
As time ran out, the Blue Devils saw a 34-14 win to move to 2-0 on the season.
Stout's
Sean Borgerding finished the game with 218 yards through the air along with two touchdowns. Borgerding also rushed for 44 yards. St. Norbert's Ben Kohl finished with 169 passing yards with two touchdowns.
On the ground,
Rayshawn Graham led the Blue Devils with 98 yards including two touchdowns. Owen Kudick for the Green Knights led with 42 yards.
Blue Devil's
Parker Fossum finished the game with seven receptions, 96 yards, and one touchdown.
Levy Hamer also had six receptions for 47 yards.
Arthur Cox had two receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown. St. Norbert's Parker Lawrence led the Green Knights in receiving yards with 94 and a touchdown.
Jack Meyer was a perfect 2-2 in field goals and 4-4 on extra points.
Noah Benson led the defensive attack for Stout with eight tackles including one sack.
Up next for the Blue Devils is a matchup at UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference battle on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 2 pm, the first of two games this season against the Pointer. The teams will meet again in a conference match-up Saturday, Oct. 16 for the Blue Devils' homecoming.
