UW-Stout 3, Hamline University 1
MENOMONIE (September 1, 2021) - After losing the first set, UW-Stout roared back to take the next three sets on their way to a 3-1 win over Hamline University Wednesday at Johnson Fieldhouse in the season opener.
The Pipers (0-1) captured the first set, 25-21, but Stout (1-0) captured the next three sets, 25-20, 25-15, 25-17.
Sidney Hoverman (So, St. Croix Falls) led the way for the Blue Devils with 12 kills, spreading her points fairly evenly throughout the four sets.
Elise Banitt (Sr, Prescott) and
Anna Hansen (So, Eau Claire) each finished with 10 kills.Â
Emili Cain (Sr, Corcoran, Minn) finished with eight kills, but put down four kills in the fourth and deciding set.Â
Stout was the leader tonight at the net, recording three solo blocks and 10 assisted blocks. Cain had three assisted blocks.
Lexie Nelson (Sr, St. Michael, Minn), who finished with 29 set assists, had a solo block, as did Hoverman and Hansen.
The Pipers' Sydney Larson led all scorers with 14 kills.Â
Stout travels to Iowa this weekend to participate in the Grinnell College/Central College Invitational. Stout will the Elmhurst College and Grinnell, Friday, Sept. 3, and the University of Dubuque and Central, Saturday, Sept 4. Stout returns home Wednesday, Sept. 8 to host St. Mary's University at 7 p.m.
