Tennis team to face Eagles in first round of WIAC Championship

WIAC Tennis Championship, presented by Culver's

MENOMONIE (April 23, 2021) - The UW-Stout tennis team will face UW-La Crosse in the first round of the WIAC Tennis Championship, presented by Culver's, Saturday, April 24 at noon at UW-Whitewater.

This year's championship will use a team tournament format to crown the league champion and the winner will also receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship. The Blue Devils are the sixth-seeded team in the seven-team tournament. UW-La Crosse is the third seeded team. The Blue Devils lost 9-0 to La Crosse earlier this month during regular season play. Stout is 1-5 heading into the tournament, while the Eagles are 8-4 overall, 4-2 in league play.

Competition begins at noon on April 24 with first round contests that will be played to completion. Semifinal matches, as well as a consolation contest between the non-winner of the No. 2/No. 7 and No. 3/No. 6 matches, will start at 4 p.m. and be played to decision. The championship match will also be played to decision and begin at 10:30 a.m. on April 25.

Match 1--UW-River Falls (#5) vs. UW-Stevens Point (#4) (at Whitewater High School)
Match 2--UW-Oshkosh (#7) vs. UW-Eau Claire (#2) (at Wangerin Courts)
Match 3--UW-Stout (#6) vs. UW-La Crosse (#3) (at Wangerin Courts)

Semifinals - 4:00 PM
Match 4--Winner of Match 1 vs. UW-Whitewater (#1) (at Wangerin Courts)
Match 5--Winner of Match 2 vs. Winner of Match 3 (at Wangerin Courts)

Consolation - 4:00 PM (Will be played only if the championship is conducted outdoors)
Match 6--Loser of Match 2 vs. Loser of Match 3 (at Whitewater High School)

Sunday, April 25
Championship - 10:30 AM
Match 7--Winner of Match 4 vs. Winner of Match 5
Winner receives conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship.

**Seedings were determined by order of finish in the conference standings during the regular-season.
