MINNEAPOLIS, Minn (March 5, 2021) - The UW-Stout softball team had trouble generating enough offense as the Blue Devils were swept by Bethel University, 12-0, 2-0, Friday at the Augsburg University Auggie Dome Games.
After having a perfect game thrown against them in the opener, the Blue Devils were able to produce enough offense to chase the Royals' (2-0) starting pitcher. By Kayla Simacek, the Royal that tossed the no-no, came in to virtually shut Stout down.
The Blue Devils (2-2) cracked out two hits in in the second inning by
Shannon Jones and
Kaylee Peterson, but the bases were left loaded. Stout stranded three again in the fourth inning and left one on base in the seventh. The Royals scored single runs in the third and the sixth innings.
In the opener, Bethel scored all of their runs in the first three inning, including a five-run third inning, and held Stout hitless in the five inning perfect game by the Royals' Kayla Simacek. All three of Stout's pitchers surrendered at least a run. Stout committed four errors and of the 12 runs, five were unearned.Â
Mackensie Wolterstorff pitched the final 1.2 innings, facing nine batters, striking out three. Starter
Melea Bruns, who was saddled with the loss, had one strikeout.
Bethel scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and five runs in the third inning.
Stout will be at the University of St. Thomas, Saturday, March 20, then will travel to the College of St. Benedict, Sunday, March 21.Â
