ST. PAUL, Minn. (March 20, 2021) - UW-Stout ran into a strong University of St. Thomas team and were toppled twice by the Tommies, 12-4, 8-0, Saturday at South Field.
The Blue Devils (2-4) showed promise in the first game, striking first with a two run first inning.
Korin Hall walked to open the game, was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Allegra Larson, advanced to third on
Ashley Jacobson's infield single and both scored on
Meghan Kelly's deep single to center field. St. Thomas took the lead in the bottom of the inning with a three-run effort, then jumped out a 7-0 lead with a four-run second.Â
It's not that the Blue Devils couldn't hit the ball - they ended up with eight hits - but after the first inning could only plate two more runners. Stout cut the deficit to 7-3 in teh fourth inning on Hall's infield hit to score
Maggie O'Brien. The Tommies tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Stout scored once more on
Kaylee Peterson's fifth inning sacrifce fly, but the Tommies ended the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Kelly was 3 for 3 with two RBI and Peterson was 2 for 2 with an RBI. The Tommies tagged Stout pitchers with 11 hits.Â
Defensively, the Blue Devils kept the Tommies (3-1) in check for much of the first five innings, allowing singles runs in each of the first three innings. But a five-run sixth inning ended the game.Â
Stout was held to two hits, with Hall and Kelly collecting the hits. The Tommies punched out nine hits. Stout did not help their own cause, getting charged with seven errors.
Stout returns to action Sunday, March 21, when they travel to the College of St. Benedict with a 1 p.m. start.
