Blue Devil hockey scores two goals in third period to get sweep over Northland

ASHLAND (February 12, 2021) - UW-Stout and Northland College traded goals until Stout's Peter Verstegen what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the third period to lift Stout to a 4-2 win over Northland College Friday. The win moved the Blue Devils into first place of the Wisconsin intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with six points.
 
Northland (0-4-0, 0-4-0 WIAC) got on the board first on a goal by Jackson Breton at 16:39 of the first period. Stout came back at 7:18 of the second period on Logan Nelson's power play goal, with assists by Even Butcher and Alex Nagel
 
The Blue Devils took a 2-1 lead when Stephen Mordini scored his first goal of the season at 7:09 of the third, with assists by Verstegen and Riley Jensen, but the Lumberjacks (0-4-0, 0-4-0 WIAC) scored a minute later to knot the score.
 
Verstegen scored unassisted less than two minutes later at 10:04. Kobe Keller scored at 11:17, with assists by Mordini and Raphael Gosselin, to give Stout a two goal lead. Both Verstegen and Keller scored their first goals of the season. 
 
Zack Cloutier had 34 saves for Stout and recorded his third win of the season. Chris Curr finished with 39 saves for the Lumberjacks.

Stout will be at UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Feb. 17, then will host the Blugolds, Friday, Feb. 19.
