UW-Stout 89, University of Dubuque 80
DUBUQUE, Iowa (December 8, 2021) - UW-Stout hit a near-school record 3-pointers and went on to down the University of Dubuque, 89-80, Wednesday at the Stoltz Sports Center.
Led by
Lovell Williams' six 3-pointers, the Blue Devils (7-2) drained 19 shots from beyond the arc - one short of the school record of 20 - and shot 48.7 percent (19-39) from 3-point range. Williams also finished with five assists.Â
Stout used the 3-pointer to pull away just after the midway point of the second half. Leading 61-58 after a
Lovell Williams layup at 11:17, the Blue Devils hit five 3-pointers over the next four minutes to jump out to a 14-point, 78-64 lead at 7:28. Stout got two treys from
Luke Geiger and single 3-point baskets from
Brenden Weis and
Kyle Williams and a 3-pointer and a jumper from
Lovell Williams to power the run.
Dubuque (5-4) managed to cut the lead to single digits, but a field goal and two free throws by
Armani Tinsley in the final 1-minute, 29-seconds of the game were enough to keep the Spartans at bay.
Stout did the vast majority of their damage from the floor. Stout did not get to the free throw line until Tinsley's two attempts in the waning seconds of the game.Â
Lovell Williams finished the night with a game-high 24 points, hitting 9 of 18 shots from the floor and 6 of 9 from the 3-point line. Tinsley finished with 18 points,
Jon Ciriacks 12 points and Geiger 10 points. Stout shot 45.9 percent (34-74) from field goal range.
The Spartans had five players in double figures, led by Peter Ragan's 17 points. Jaylin McCants contributed 14 points, Sam Kilburg 13, Keegan Zimmerman 11 and Dylan Anderson 10.
Dubuque shot 45.2 percent (28-62) from the floor, 44.8 percent (13-29) from 3-point range and 61.1 percent (11-18) from the free throw line. StuotÂ
Stout held a slight advantage in rebounds, 37-35.
Lovell Williams led all players with nine rebounds. Levi Scheuermann had seven rebounds for Dubuque.
Stout is off until Monday, Dec. 13, when they host the high-flying Greenville University Panthers at 7 p.m. The Panthers average 113 points per game.
