Fifty points in the first half push Blue Devils past Lakeland, 97-57

MENOMONIE (December 6, 2021) - Stout was able to score 50 points in the first half, as they defeat the visiting Lakeland Muskies, 97-57, on Monday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils (6-2) started out with some strong shooting while their opponent, Lakeland (4-4), struggled to get started offensively. In the first half alone, Stout shot two times better than the Muskies, going 50-percent from the floor (21 for 42) while Lakeland only shot 25-percent from the floor (8 for 32). This shooting pushed Stout ahead, entering the break up by 27 points, 50-23.

The last time the Blue Devils scored 50 points or more in a single game was in 2019 where they scored 51 points at Edgewood. The last time this feat was done in Johnson Fieldhouse was in 2018 with a 96-94 win against Silver Lake College.

The second half was a very similar story to the first, Stout connected on 50-percent of their looks from the floor (18 for 36) while the Muskies shot a little better going 30-percent (11 for 37). Many Stout bench players got into the action as Stout had a comfortable lead. 15 of the 16 Blue Devils that saw time on the court added to the scoreboard over the course of the game. The Blue Devils bench finished with 49 points. Lakeland left a majority of their scoring to their starters, only scoring four bench points.

For Lakeland, Cam Jaeger was Lakeland's leading scorer coming into the game. Jaeger scored over 20 points in six of Lakeland's seven games. Tonight, Stout held him to only 11 points on 33-percent shooting. Jequan Pegeese scored a Muskie-high 13 points, this nearly doubled his season-total, having only 16 points before tonights game. Greg Barber almost had a double-double for Lakeland with 10 points and 8 rebounds.

On Stout's end, Lovell Williams led the team with an 18-point outing. L. Williams also recorded 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Three Blue Devils had 10 points, Brody Fox, Jackson Noll, and Jon Ciriacks. Ciriacks had 7 rebounds and 2 blocks as well. Fox was perfect tonight, going 4 for 4 in field goals and 2 for 2 from the line. Noll connected on 50-percent of his 3-pointers (2 for 4). Drew Scott did a great job protecting the rim for Stout, swatting away three shots and heavily contesting a lot more.

Stout finished the game shooting an accurate 500-percent from the field (39 for 78) and 35-percent from deep (9 for 26). Lakeland finished 28-percent from the field (19 for 69) and 18-percent from deep (6 for 34). Stout out-rebounded the Muskies 57 to 38. The last time Stout recorded more than 55 rebounds was in 2019 where they pulled down 55 against Finlandia University. The Stout defense was it's usually self, forcing 14 turnovers and recording 8 steals. Kyle Williams led the team with two steals. Stout finished 10 for 14 (71-percent) from the free throw line, the Muskies went 13 for 20 (65-percent) on the free shots.

The Blue Devil Men will head out on the road to face Dubuque in a double header with the women before returning to Johnson Fieldhouse to face the high-scoring Greenville Panthers on December 13. The game will tip off 7 p.m.
