UW-Stout 1, UW-River Falls 5
RIVER FALLS (December 11, 2021) - The Blue Devils took on UW-River Falls for the second time this weekend, but this time it was on the Falcon's own ice. Going into the third-period tied, 1-1, the Falcons scored four unanswered goals to pull away from the Blue Devils, 5-1, on Saturday night at Hunt Arena.
After a scoreless first period, both teams came out of the break looking to get points on the board. The Falcons (8-3-1, 4-2) were able to capitalize on a power-play as Noah Roofe scored his first goal of the night with 13 minutes left in the period. However, the Blue Devils (3-9, 3-3) answered back only moments later. The goal came at the hands of
Riley Enderle with help from
Peyton Hart and
Alex Stuckert. This was Enderle's fourth goal in the five games he has seen action and his second of the weekend. The Blue Devils were able to kill off a Falcon's power-play to end the second period, entering the final period with a tied game.
UW-River Falls controlled the third period right from the beginning. Scoring their first of four third-period goals only a minute into the period. Caleb Anderson found the back of the net with this one. Only minutes later, Josh Arnold scored the second goal of the third-period for the Falcons, with an assist from Jack Kilroy. Kilroy also assisted on Roofe's goal in the second-period. Stout went on the attack, recording 17 shots on goal in the third-period alone.
The Blue Devils were awarded with a power-play late in the third, where they decided to pull their goalie to get another extra man on the ice. This ended up giving Noah Roofe an empty net goal opportunity to record his second goal of the night. This put the Falcons up 4-1 with only 3 minutes remaining. UW-River Falls would go on to score another goal before the final buzzer, defeating the Blue Devils, 5-1.
The Blue Devils were led in scoring by
Riley Enderle with one goal with
Peyton Hart and
Alex Stuckert both getting an assist. For UW-River Falls, Noah Roofe had two goals, and Jack Kilroy and Peter Grytdhal each had two assists. Brian Kitchen recorded 29 saves and 4 goals allowed for the Blue Devils. The Falcon's goalie, Dean Bulchhoz, also recorded 29 saves with only one goal allowed.
As a team, Stout took 30 shots and River Falls took 34 shots on goal. River Falls had the edge in face-offs 41 to 28.
The Blue Devils will now get some time to rest for the Holidays. They will then head out on the road for three games, starting with Bethel University on Friday, January 7, then heading to Hameline University on Saturday. Stout will be back home on January 14, 2022 to take on St. Mary's (Minn.).
