UW-River Falls downs UW-Stout in overtime

UW-River Falls 5, UW-Stout 4 (OT)

MENOMONIE (December 10, 2021) - UW-River Falls scored with an extra defender on the ice with 15 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, then scored with 40 seconds remaining in overtime to defeat UW-Stout, 5-4, Friday in a WIAC men's hockey contest at the Fanetti Community Center.
 
Stout's Riley Enderle put Stout ahead 4-3 at the 15:43 mark of the third, but the Falcons' Sam Anzai tied the score with 15 seconds left in regulation. Josh Arnold scored for the Falcons at 4:20 in overtime for the win.

The Falcons (7-3-1, 3-2-0 WIAC) drew first blood in the game, scoring twice in the first period. Jack Kilroy was hear for the first goal, that coming at the 7:58 mark of the first period. River Falls made it 2-0 with a goal at 13:03 on a shot by Gibb Coady.

Stout (3-8-0, 3-2-0 WIAC) cut the score in half with less than two minutes left in the opening period. Dylan Rallis found a loose puck in front of the net and slapped the puck into the back of the net, on assists by Cole Beckstead and Noe Perez.

The Falcons stretched the lead to 3-1 in the second period, Stout quickly came back to return the game to a one goal game.

The Falcons' Cayden Cahill scores at 14:22 for a two goal lead. River Falls looked to stretch the lead when the Blue Devils were whistled for a penalty. But Alex Nagel scored a short handed goal at 15:06 to make it 3-2 heading into the second intermission.

Stout's Tyler Masternak made 31 saves and the Falcons Dysen Skinner had 27 saves.
 
The teams play again Saturday, Dec. 11 at Hunt Arena in River Falls at 7 p.m.
