2021 WIAC Women's Tennis Championship
MADISON (October 23, 2021) -
Lauren Couves earned a first round win as UW-Stout competed in the first day of the WIAC Women's Tennis Championship Saturday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the University of Wisconsin campus.
Couves defeated UW-Stevens Point's Barbra Covek, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Couves, the fourth seed at No. 1, will face top seeded Kimberly Steinert of UW-La Crosse in a second round match Sunday, Oct. 24.Â
Annie Sandry lost to Clare Palen of UW-Eau Claire, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Sandry will face UW-Oshkosh's Alyssa Pattee in the second round.Â
Ellie Becker was defeated by Jenna Koepp, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 singles to see her singles winning streak end at five matches. Becker drew a bye in the second round and will compete in the fifth place match Sunday.
Mariah Kent dropped a No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-3, to Kaitlyn Hess of UW-Stevens Point. Kent drew a second round bye and will advance to the fifth place match.
Anna Kent lost 6-1, 6-3, in a No. 5 singles match. she will face Alessandra Rivera of UW-Oshkosh in the second round.
Kyrstin Hanson lost a 6-3, 6-3, match at No. 6 singles to Kaylee Woelfel of UW-Stevens Point. Hanson draws a second round by and will play in the fifth place match.
Couves and Sandry lost 8-2 to Covek and Koepp of Stevens Point at No. 1 doubles. They draw the second round bye and will play Michelle Spicer and Jenna Nolde of UW-Oshkosh in the fifth place match.
Becker and
Mariah Kent lost the No. 2 doubles match 8-4 to Faith Leithold and Kaitlyn Hess of Stevens Point. Becker and Kent draw a second round bye and will play Emma Heinert and Erin Gallion of UW-River Falls in the fifth place match.
Anna Kent and
Kylie Rennie lost 8-1 in No. 3 doubles to HannahRiegel and Morgan Graf of La Crosse. The Stout pair defeated UW-Oshkosh's Alessandra Rivera and Jade Schwichow, 8-9 and will play in the fifth place match against River Falls' Abbie Reed and Macy Ragsdal.
The meet will conclude Sunday, Oct. 24.
