UW-Stout 4, UW-River Falls 2
MENOMONIE (October 20, 2021) - UW-Stout scored three first half goals on their way to a 4-2 win over UW-River Falls Wednesday at Nelson Field in the team's final home regular season game.
Just minutes after getting recognized on Senior Night, senior
Caylee Boone opened the scoring for the Blue Devils (10-6-1, 2-3-0 WIAC) in the second minute, scoring her first goal of the season, with an assist from
Liv Winkler.
The Falcons' (5-9-2, 0-4-1 WIAC) Alexis Peterson scored in the 10th minute to knot the score, but Stout answered back with two more first half goals, one by
Carly Kauffman in the 22nd minute, her third of the season, and the second by
Lauren Boyd in the 44th minute just before halftime. It was Boyd's second goal of the season. Winkler assisted on Kauffman's goal.
After the break, Alayna Westerman made it a one goal game in the 48th minute for the Falcons, but Stout widened the gap to two on a goal by
Marissa Steele in the 64th minute when she jumped on a loose ball for her fifth goal of the season.
The four goals by the Blue Devils match a season-high when they notched a 4-2 win over Minnesota-Morris.
Stout has two games remaining on the regular season. The Blue Devils will be at UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Oct. 23, then will close out the regular season by traveling to UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Oct. 30. Stout is currently in fifth place in the WIAC. The third and fourth seeded team's will host a first-round WIAC Championship game, Tuesday, Nov. 2. Six teams advance to the tournament.
