OSHKOSH (October 17, 2021) - The UW-Stout tennis team will head into the WIAC Women's Tennis Championship on a positive note by winning three of their last four meets and their final two meets by 9-0 scores Sunday.
The Blue Devils (5-5, 2-4 WIAC) opened the day with a 9-0 win over conference foe UW-Oshkosh (2-8, 0-6 WIAC), then closed out the afternoon with a 9-0 non-conference win.
The win over Oshkosh was their third straight win over the Titans after two wins last spring, but the Stout program's first 9-0 win over Oshkosh since at least 1993.  Stout had defeated UW-River Falls Oct. 10 for their first conference win of the season.
Ellie Becker picked up the Stout's lone win yesterday at No. 3 singles against UW-Whitewater. And Becker continued her strong play taking a 6-3, 6-2, win over the Titans' Jenna Nolde and a 6-0, 6-0 win over Marian's Julia Loomens. With the two wins today, Becker extended her winning streak to five matches, stretching back to a tie-breaker win against Wisconsin Lutheran, Oct. 3. Becker combined with
Mariah Kent to win both matches at No. 2 doubles, 8-3 against Oshkosh and 8-2 against Marian. On the season, Becker is 7-3 in singles and is 5-3 in doubles.Â
At No. 1 singles,
Lauren Couves took a 6-2, 7-5 win over Michelle Spicer of Oshkosh and a 7-5, 6-0 win over Carly Paulson of Marian.
Annie Sandry defeated Alyssa Patee of Oshkosh 6-4, 6-2, and Aeryn Olson of Marian 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 at No. 2 singles. Couves and Sandry won at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, 8-1.
Mariah Kent defeated Hannah Stitt of Oshkosh, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Anna Kent defeated Allesondra Rivera of Oshkosh, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Marian did not have enough players and were forced to forfeit at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.Â
Kyrstin Hanson won 6-0, 6-0, over Oshkosh's Jade Schwichow at No. 6 doubles, then moved up to No. 4 singles for a 6-2, 6-1, win over Marian's Abby Okon.
Madeline Binczak won 6-3, 6-0 over Marian's Katrina Pokorny at No. 5 singles.
Emma Benjamin earned a forfeit at No. 6 singles against Marian.
In doubles,
Anna Kent and
Kylie Rennie blanked Oshkosh's Alessandra Rivera and Jade Schwichow at No. 3 doubles.
Macy Hanson and
Emma Benjamin were awarded the forfeit at No. 3 doubles against Marian.
The Blue Devils will head into the conference tournament Saturday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 24 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
