ST. PAUL, Minn. (October 13, 2021) – UW-Stout put up a fight in the first set, but were overpowered in the final two sets as the Blue Devil volleyball team was defeated 25-21, 25-11, 25-12, by 17th-ranked University of Northwestern at the Ericksen Center.

The Blue Devils (11-9) had valiant effort in the first set, a set that produced eight tied scores and three lead changes as the Eagles took a 25-21 win. Northwestern (18-3) Â jumped out to an 11-6 lead, but Stout rallied and got consecutive kills my
Macayla Thompson and
Lexie Nelson, followed by back-to-back kills by
Jessica Barr to pull to within 11-10.

Barr had five kills in the first set and tied the score at 15, 16 and 18. A service ace by
Terrah Moshier put the Blue Devils ahead 19-18, but Northwestern would tie the score at 20 and would score five of the final six points for the win.

It was a different story in sets two and three. Stout got as close as 7-5 in the second set. Stout held a 4-2 lead in the third set, and the score was tied a few times before the Eagles pulled away. With Northwestern leading 10-9, the Eagles cored 15 of the final 18 points of the set.

Sidney Hoverman led Stout with eight kills and Barr finished with seven as the Blue Devils hit at a .093 mark.

The Eagles got 13 kills each from Kendra Hardy and Abby Glanzer. Gabrielle had 10 kills. The Eagles had one solo block and 10 assisted blocks to Stout's one solo block and two assisted blocks.

Stout returns to league play Friday, Oct. 15 when they host UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
