AHCA Krampade All-American Scholars
MENOMONIE (August 11, 2020) - Nine UW-Stout members of the Blue Devil hockey team were selected as a Krampade All-American Scholars by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA).
Garett Giertuga, Fr, F, Thunder Bay, Ontario;
Landon Lushanko, So, F, Chisago City, Minn,;
Tomi Varjonen, So, D, Helsinki, Finland;
Lucas Carroll, Jr, F, East Bethel, Minn.;
Alex Stuckert, Fr, D, Woodbury, Minn.;
Konnar Dechaine, Jr, F, Lac la Biche, Alberta;
Peter Verstegen, Fr, F, Oshkosh;
Alex Nagel, So, F, Antigo; and
Jack Cernohous, Jr, D, Hudson, were honored by the association.
Giertuga is a construction major, Lushanko a health, wellness and fitness major, Varjonen a health, welllness and fitness major, Carroll a mechanical engineering major, Stuckert a construction major, Dechaine a construction major, Verstegen a packaging major, Nagel a graphic design major and Cernohous a mechanical engineering major.
The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) recognizes varsity ice hockey players who compiled exceptional results in the classroom during the 2019-20 season in the fourth annual "Krampade All American Scholars." Due to the effects of Covid-19 on actual grades in the spring, the AHCA adopted revised criteria for this year's honorees. To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for the fall semester and participated in 40 percent of their school's games. The fourth annual award recognizes 788 Division II-III men and women, 465 men, 323 women. The AHCA named Division I All-American Scholar athletes in July.
The AHCA recognized 30 men from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and 25 women.
"These are exceptional individuals," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "The sport demands a great deal from these athletes so it is a great statement they make, individually and collectively, with their ability to attain this level of academic achievement while contributing at the NCAA Division III level."
