OWATONNA, Minn. (February 28, 2020) - UW-Stout opened the spring portion of their schedule with an 8-1 win over Martin Luther College Friday at the Owatonna Tennis Center.
The Blue Devils opened the meet by capturing all three doubles, although
Kylie Rennie and
Kyrstin Hanson earned a forfeit win.
Lauren Couves and
Mariah Kent, playing together as a doubles team for the first time this season, took an 8-4 win over Annie Hemmelmann and Ella Loersch at No. 1 doubles.
Annie Sandry and
Emily Preston nabbed an 8-5 win over McKenzey Crowley and Faith Struemke at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, most of the Blue Devils rolled through their opponents, winning in straight sets. Sandry defeated Loersch, 6-2, 6-0. Kent defeated Crowley, 6-1, 6-1, Preston defeated Struemke, 6-4, 7-4 and Rennie defeated Hannah Broring, 6-1, 6-4.
Couves suffered Stout's only loss. Playing at No. 1 singles for the first time in her collegiate career, Couves lost 6-4, 6-3, to Hemmelman, a four-year No. 1 player for the Knights and the UMAC player of the year during the 2018-19 season.
Stout returns to action Friday, March 6 when they travel to Appleton to face Lawrence University at 7 p.m. at the Fox Cities Racquet Club.
