UW-Stout 5, Lawrence University 4
APPLETON (March 6, 2020) - UW-Stout came from behind to win their second consecutive match of the spring, downing Lawrence University, 5-4, Friday at the Fox Cities Racquet Club.
After dropping two of three doubles matches, the Blue Devils had a strong showing in the singles and it came down to the final two matches on the court to give Stout the win.Â
Trailing 4-3 with No. 4 singles and No. 2 singles the only on the court,
Emily Preston and
Annie Sandry forged wins.
Preston playing at No. 4, played a tight match, dropping the first set 7-5, but came back to take a 6-4 second set win, forcing the third set tie-breaker, winning 10-5,over Morgan Fisher and tied the match at 4-4.
Sandry won in straight sets at No. 2, winning a 7-6 first set on a tie-breaker, then took a 6-3 second set win over Lauren Aturaliya.
Lauren Couves won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Margot Connor.
Mariah Kent captured a 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 win at No. 3 singles.Â
Preston and
Kyrstin Hanson won Stout's lone doubles match, winning 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
Couves and Kent lost 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and Sandry and
Kylie Rennie lost 8-7 at No. 2 doubles. Rennie lost 6-4, 7-5, at No. 5 singles and Hanson lost 7-5, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.
Stout is off until Wednesday, March 25 when they play Bethany Lutheran College in Lakeville, Minn.
