Titans play big in third quarter, a quarter that dooms Stout

MENOMONIE (February 15, 2020) – UW-Oshkosh outscored UW-Stout 22-7 in the third quarter to break open a close game and went on to a 54-36 win over the Blue Devils Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
 
With Stout (14-9, 5-7 WIAC) trailing 23-19 at halftime, the teams traded baskets to start the second half and Stout pulled to within 25-23 before the Titans (14-9, 7-5 WIAC) pulled away, ending the period on a 20-3 run. When Stout's Katie Christopherson hit a free throw at 4:18 to make the score 35-26, Stout did not score again until 8:14 of the fourth quarter when Amber Fabeck hit a 3-pointer.
 
Karsyn Rueth led the Oshkosh third quarter attack, scoring 10 of her game-high 16 points in the period.
 
Leah Porsath finished with 15 points for the Titans and Nikki Arneson had nine points.
 
Stout had no players in double digits. Fabeck and Christopherson each finished with eight points.
 
The Titans out-rebounded Stout 37-29. Oshkosh hit 44.7 percent (21-47) from the floor, while Stout was limited to 28.8 percent (15-52) and shot only 18.2 percent (2-11) in the third quarter.

The offensive output by the Blue Devils was their lowest since Feb. 5, 2015 when the Blue Devils lost 52-36 to UW-La Crosse. 
 
Stout will be at UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Feb. 19 and will close out the regular season Saturday, Feb. 22 with UW-Whitewater.
