SUPERIOR (February 15, 2020) -
Brennan Kitchen made 35 saves and UW-Stout makes an early first period goal stand up and the Blue Devils closed out the regular season with 1-0 shutout in the 2019-20 regular season finale at Wessman Arena Saturday.
The win gives Kitchen his second shutout of the season and send the Blue Devils (7-17-1, 6-9-0 WIAC) into the WIACÂ Championship first round series on a positive note Stout will open the tournament at UW-River Falls Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22.Â
Logan Nelson lit up the scoreboard with his ninth goal of the season at 3:41 of the first period with assists by
Konnar Dechaine and
Riley Jensen and the Blue Devil defense did an outstanding job to keep the 'Jackets off the board.
The freshman Kitchen posted his second shutout of the season, with his first collegiate shutout coming Jan. 25 in a 4-0 win at Northland College. For Kitchen, it was his fifth game over his last five outings that he has stopped 30 or more shots. Kitchen recorded eight saves in the first period, 14 in the second and 13 in the third and improved to 6-9-1 on the season.Â
The Yellowjackets' Nick Althaus recorded 29 saves and was tagged with the loss. The Yellowjackets will host Northland College in a first round series. UW-Stevens Point earned the No. 1 seed and UW-Eau Claire the No. 2 seed. The Pointers and the Blugolds will have a bye in the first round.Â
Stout was 0-2 on the power play and Superior was 0-4.
