Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Stout hockey edged by St. Olaf, 3-2

St. Olaf College 3, UW-Stout 2

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (January 18, 2020) - UW-Stout simply ran out of time as the Blue Devils lost a 3-2 decision to St. Olaf College Saturday.

The Blue Devils (4-12-1) put together another late rally, scoring with five seconds left in the game after pulling their goalie. But there simply was not enough time as the Oles batted the puck away on the ensuing faceoff and time ran out.

The Oles (3-13-1) started off the scoring quickly by putting two scores up on the board in the first period, both within the first two-plus minutes of the game, getting goals by Kyle Rimbach at 1:09 of the first and by Mitch Dolter at 2:07.

Stout cut the lead in half in the second period when Evan Butcher, with assists by Peter Verstegen and Alex Bowe, scored at 10:23 of the second. For Butcher, it was his second goal of the season.

The Oles neutralized that goal six minutes later, taking advantage on the power play.on a goal by Josh Radtke.

The third period was quiet from a scoring point of view until Stout pulled goalie Evan Bisek. The Blue Devils' defenseman Connor Chambers scored his first goal of the season in a scrum with the extra attacker on the ice with five seconds remaining. Lucas Carroll and Raphael Gosselin were awarded assists on the goal.

After the officials were able to sort out a number of penalties, the Oles were able to push the puck out of reach of the Blue Devils and iced their first home win of the season.

Bisek recorded 26 saves for the Blue Devils, while Cooper Lukenda had 29 saves for the Oles.

The game marked the final non-conference contest of the year for both teams. Stout will play a home-and-home series with Northland College this week, hosting the Lumberjacks, Thursday, Jan. 23, for a 7 p.m. contest, then traveling to Ashland, Saturday, Jan. 25 for a 7 p.m. game. The Blue Devils defeated Northland 6-5 in the teams' first meeting of the year in November, Stout's first win of the season.
