MENOMONIE (January 23, 2020) - For the second matchup of three games this year, the Blue Devils scored three goals in the first period, another three goals in the second period, and tallied a goal in the third to take the game 7-2 against the Lumberjacks.Â
The first period saw five total goals. The first to get on the scoreboard was UW-Stout (5-12-1, 4-4-0 WIAC) as
Alex Bowe shot from the point and got the puck past the Northland College (4-14-1, 1-8-0 WIAC) goalie.
Evan Butcher and
Logan Nelson had assists on the first goal of the night as the Blue Devils went up 1-0.Â
At 10:01 of the period, Stout took another shot from the point, this time from
Alec Skar, and beat the Lumberjack goaltender to make the game 2-0. Assists on the goal were again from
Evan Butcher and
Logan Nelson.Â
But the Blue Devils weren't done scoring in the first period. At 11:42 of the period,
Adam Kresl scored to have Stout lead by three goals.
Raphael Gosselin and
Jack Cernohous made the play happen as they got assists on the score.Â
The Lumberjacks were not backing down. At 12:27 of the first period, they got on the scoreboard as Kurt Sonne beat Kitchen to make the game 3-1. At 16:20 of the period, Northland's Kyle Pouncy scored to make it a one goal game.Â
The first period came to an end with the Blue Devils up 3-2.
At 4:10 of the second period, Stout got back on the board to make it a 4-2 game.
Alex Nagel got a pass from
Evan Butcher and scored for the Blue Devils. The assist for Butcher was his third of the game to give him a "playmaker".Â
The Blue Devils notched another goal at the 12:28 mark of the period to get it back to a three goal game as
Logan Nelson scored his sixth goal of the season.
Evan Butcher and
Connor Chambers had the assists on the goal.Â
Stout was not done with the scoring affair as
Raphael Gosselin scored a power play goal at 15:29 of the period.
Konnar Dechaine and Jack Cernohaus both had assists on the play as the Blue Devils led 6-2 going into the second intermission.Â
At 2:27 of the third period, Stout went on a power play and
Alex Bowe ripped a shot from the point and beat the Lumberjack goalie to make the game 7-2.
Noah Carson and
Peter Verstegen added assists on the power play goal.Â
The game ended with a Blue Devil win and the final score of 7-2.
Brennan Kitchen got the win in goal and saved 33 shots.Â
The last time the Blue Devils scored seven goals in a game was December 15, 2018 against Finlandia University as Stout won the game 7-4.Â
Up next for the Blue Devils is the third and final matchup against Northland College. Stout will travel to the Lumberjacks on January 25 with a game time of 7:00 p.m.Â
