MENOMONIE (January 14, 2020) - For the third and final time, the Blue Devils faced the Falcons of River Falls at the Fanetti Community Center. 21 penalties were called in the game and River Falls capitalized on two power play goals. The Falcons scored four goals in the second period to give River Falls the win 6-2.
In the first period, both teams looked to get the first goal and carry the momentum throughout the game. UW-River Falls (10-4-2, 4-3-1) committed the first penalty at 6:24 of the game and UW-Stout (4-10-1, 3-4-0) were skating one man up. But the Falcons killed off the penalty to even the numbers up.
The Blue Devils saw another opportunity to score at 8:49 of the period as River Falls committed their second penalty. But the Falcon's poised penalty kill ended UW-Stout's chances to score the first goal of the game.
At 14:24 of the first period, River Falls went onto their first power play. But Stout held the Falcons to no score and the game remained 0-0. But at 18:59 Stout went onto skate a man short again and this time, the Falcons capitalized on the power play. River Falls Cayden Cahill scored the power play goal to make the game 1-0 going into the first intermission.
Shots in the first period were in favor of the Falcons 9-7.
The second period was filled with penalties by both teams and Falcon's four goals. The first goal came at 3:47 of the second period when Falcon's Christian Hausinger scored on a power play goal. At 6:00 of the period, River Fall's Joel Frazee scored on a breakaway. And at 11:28, Falcon's Josh Arnold took the puck and beat Kitchen for a short-handed goal to make the game 4-0.
But the Blue Devils didn't back down as Alec Skar scored his first goal of the year to make it a three goal game. Lucas Carroll and Dylan Mattson were on the assists at 15:25 of the period.
Just 36 seconds later, Falcon's Christian Hausinger scored his second goal of the night to give River Falls the 5-1 lead going into the second intermission.
Shots in the second period were 19-18 in favor of River Falls.
The Blue Devils tried fighting back, but the Falcon's Christian Hausinger scored at 10:55 of the third period, giving Hausinger the hat trick on the night.
Stout scored a lone third period goal as Konnar Dechaine beat Quinn on the score to score his seventh goal of the season. Landon Lushanko and Alec Skar had the assists on the play and the scoreboard showed 6-2.
Falcon's Zach Quinn recieved the win and finished with 22 saves. Brennan Kitchen started the game and saved 14 shots. Brady Meyers came in relief and stopped nine saves in the third period.
