UW-River Falls 6. UW-Stout 3
MENOMONIE (September 15, 2019) -
Lauren Couves was part of two victories and
Mariah Kent needed three sets to take a win as UW-Stout was defeated by UW-River Falls, 6-3, in a breakfast-time match Sunday morning at the South Courts.
Kent, playing at No. 5 singles, opened her match with with the Falcons' Abbie Reed with a 6-4 win. But Reed battled back to knot the match at one set apiece with a 6-3 win. Kent returned the favor in the third set with a 6-3 win.
Couves found wins at No. 1 doubles with partner
Elizabeth Wentzel and at No. 2 singles. Couves and Wentzel took an 8-6 win in doubles over Isabella Kranz and Olivia Watke. Couves dispatched Watke at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Annie Sandry dropped her first set at No. 1 singles to Kranz 6-1, but dug deep to force a tie breaker in the second set, but came up just short, 7-6.Â
Wentzel, playing at No. 3 singles, lost 7-6 on a tie-breaker in the first set with Kailey Courteau, then lost the second set 6-1.Â
The Blue Devils are off until Wednesday, Sept. 28 when they face St. Thomas at 4 p.m. in a make-up date from an earlier season rain-out.Â
