ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (September 13, 2019) - After running off eight consecutive wins to start the season, UW-Stout's winning streak came to an end when the Blue Devils lost a five-set match to St. Olaf College Friday in their first match of the Bethel University Tournament. Stout then lost their second match of the season, a 3-1 loss to host Bethel.
The Oles (9-1) took the match 22-25. 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13.
The Blue Devils found themselves down two sets to one for the first time this season, but came back to take the fourth set behind five kills by freshman
Lydia Kneubuehl and three kills each by
McKylie Hoff,
Lexie Nelson and
Amber Ripley. Kneubuehl, who finished the match with 14 kills, recorded four kills to lead Stout in the five and deciding set.
Nelson led Stout with 17 kills, 19 assists three service aces and 15 digs. Ripley trailed Kneubuehl by one in kills with 13.
Jessica DuVal tallied 31 assists and
Steph Cannon had 31 digs.
The Oles got 13 kills apiece from Summer Reid and Lauren Rewers and 11 from Katelyn Lannom. The Oles held a 12-6 advantage in service aces.
The Royals downed the Blue Devils 25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 28-26. Kneubuehl led Stout with 10 kills. Ripley and
Kara Simonson each had eight kills. Ripley had five service aces. Maria Claflin had 17 kills for the Royals.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to face Luther College and the University of Minnesota, Morris, Saturday, Sept. 14.
