THIS WEEK'S GAMES: UW-Stout (14-11, 3-3 WIAC) was scheduled to play at
UW-River Falls (6-18, 0-6 WIAC), Thursday, April 18, but that doubleheader has been postponed to Thursday, April 25. At this time Stout is scheduled to to host fourth-ranked
University of St. Thomas,(28-4, 14-2 MIAC) Friday, April 19 starting at 3 p.m. and travel to
UW-La Crosse (15-11, 3-1 WIAC) Saturday, April 20 at noon in a twice rescheduled contest.
PARKING: Parking for home baseball and softball games during the business week is limited. Regular parking restrictions are strictly enforced. Parking for baseball and softball spectators during weekday games is restricted to on-street parking and in Lot 29 one hour before the scheduled start of the event. Lot 29 is located just to the north of the outdoor track.
DO NOT PARK in Lot 4 during the week. Lot 4 is the parking lot located to the west of the Sports & Fitness Center and north of Don & Nona Williams Stadium (the football stadium).
Lot 4 is only open to the general public from 1 p.m. on Fridays until 9 p.m. on Sundays. There is no general parking in Lot 4 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays and not until 1 pm on Fridays. Team bus may park in the southeast space in Lot 4 (Emergency Vehicle Only space). Team buses may also park on the east side (outdoor track side - not the metered side) of 3rd Street East. Parking is permitted in all university lots on weekends.
UW-STOUT: Lead-off hitter
Mary Iliopoulos leads the WIAC in batting average at .434 with nine RBI. The Blue Devil junior is 36-of-83 with nine RBI.
Kyncaide Diedrich is hitting .425 (34-80) with 20 RBI. Diedrich had five RBI in a single game against UM-Morris and punched in six runs in a doubleheader with UW-Platteville.
Jessica Daley is hitting .350 (21-60) with 18 RBI.
Meghan Kelly is hitting .325 (26-80) with a team high 22 RBI. .
Alicia Meyer has a team best 10 doubles and is tied for third in the WIAC . Meyer has a team-high three sacrifice flies, getting two against New Rochelle. |

Mary Iliopoulos was selected to the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year watch list and a Fastpitch News (FPN) preseason honorable mention pick.
IN THE CIRCLE: The Blue Devils have utilized five pitchers this year, with
Melea Bruns making 10 starts,
Sommer Kunstmann nine,
Kim Labahn four and
Meghan Kelly two. Bruns is currently 4-4 overall in 14 appearances with an ERA of 2.83 and 17 strikeouts. Bruns has two saves. Kunstmann is 4-5 overall with an ERA of 4.67 over 13 apearances. Labahn is 4-0 over 36.2 innings with an ERA of 2.86 and has completed three games. Labahn leads the team in strikeouts with 20. Kelly generally comes on in relief, and will move from first to pitcher. She has thrown 12.0 innings and has an ERA of 2.92.
Madee Kleinschmidt has made three appearances and earned her first win, going 2.2 inning in relief against UW-Platteville. Kleinschmidt is posting an ERA of 1.75.
THIEVERY: Iliopoulos and Diedrich are at it again on the base paths. Diedrich leads the WIAC in stolen bases, with 20 thefts in 21 attempts. Iliopoulos has 12 stolen bases in 17 attempts. Iliopoulos is ranked third in the WIAC in steals. Iliopoulos had four steals against New Rochelle. As a team, Stout is second in the WIAC in stolen bases with 53. With a combined 32 stolen bases, the duo has stolen more bases than five teams in the WIAC. Diedrich is currently 14th in the NCAA Division III in stolen bases, averaging 0.91 stolen bases per game. LAST SEASON: UW-Stout's 23 victories during the 2018 campaign were the most in head coach
Becky Iaccino's three seasons and highest total since 27 wins in 2014.
Mary Iliopoulos led the WIAC in batting average, posting a school and conference record-tying average of .500. She also topped the league with a .538 on-base percentage, 49 hits and 35 runs scored, while finishing third with a .673 slugging percentage and 23 stolen bases.
Kyncaide Diedrich had a team-high 23 RBI and three home runs, and placed second with a .412 batting average and 25 runs scored.
Melea Bruns, a 2018 All-WIAC honorable mention selection, is the top returnee on the mound after posting a 2.83 earned run average and six wins in 64.1 innings pitched a season ago. The Blue Devils were 23-12 overall and 9-5 in league play. The Blue Devils advanced to the WIAC tournament, finishing one game short of the conference tournament title game. |

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: The Blue Devils were scheduled to host UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater last weekend, but those games were moved to Whitewater due the mid-April snowstorm that dumped 10 inches in the Menomonie area. The Blue Devils were swept by Oshkosh, 5-3 10-3, April 13, then following a one day delay, split with host UW-Whitewater, winning the opener by coming back to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 win, then lost 8-2 in the nightcap, April 15. |

UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS : The Tommies are currently ranked fourth in the April 17 NFCA poll, moving up from 11th last week. The Tommies have not lost since April 5 when they were tripped up at Hamline University, 5-1. With 17 doubles, Chase Shortly is ranked third nationally in total numbers of doubles and 10th in double/game at 0.53. Shortly is ranked 15th nationally in RBI/game, averaging 1.4 with a total of 44. Four Tommies have punched out more that 20 RBI, led by Shortly. Elise Barnes and Dana Connolly have each rapped out 26 RBI and Melissa Barry has notched 23. Kierstin Anderson-Glass has piled up 14 victories, ranking 12th in the NCAA Division III and is ranked 10th nationally in ERA with 1.01. Anderson-Glass has seven of the team's 14 shutouts, pitching 12 complete games. She has 77 striketouts.. |

TOMMIES LAST TIME OUT: The Tommies were scheduled to play Macalester College, April 17, but that date has been moved to Monday, April 22. The Tommies have four dates left on their calendar. St. Thomas swept past Augsburg University, 2-0, 11-4, April 15, extending their winning streak to 13. junior Kierstin Anderson-Glass allowed no runs and no walks over 9 1-3 innings and picked up both pitching wins Senior Chase Shortly finished 4-for-7 in the day to lead the Tommie offense. In game one, the Toms scored both runs with two-out at-bats. Shortly's home run in the first inning and Rachel Suter's infield RBI single in the second backed Anderson-Glass's three-hit shutout. The Tommies slapped 13 hits in game two, with Dana Connelly going 3-for-3 and Elise Barnes launching a solo homer to left. |

LAST TIME STOUT AND ST. THOMAS MET: The Blue Devils managed only hit against the fourth-ranked Tommies and St. Thomas scored all three of their runs in the second inning when the teams met March 28 in Florida. The Tommies took advantage of a Stout error in the third inning with two of the three runs unearned.
Melea Bruns went the distance in the circle for Stout, allowing seven hits, striking out two and stranding six Tommie base runners. Stout started to get some offense going in the fourth inning.

UW-LA CROSSE: Kendra Leis is hitting .413 with 22 RBI. Sabrina Scardamaglia is hitting. .397 with 12 RBI. Mia Schmidtke has driven in 15 runs and is hitting at a .329 pace. Caitlyn Hughes (10-2) in 15 appearances with an ERA of 3.10 and 57 strikeouts. Last season, UW-La Crosse's Mia Schmidtke led the 2018 squad with a .707 slugging percentage, 33 RBI and 10 doubles. The Eagles also welcome back Stephanie Cole, who sat out the 2018 campaign due to injury, but had a team-leading .529 slugging percentage, 61 hits, 12 doubles and 32 RBI in 2017. Caitlyn Hughes compiled team highs of 88.1 innings pitched and 57 strikeouts a season ago. She claimed WIAC Pitcher of the Year recognition in 2016. |

LAST TIME STOUT AND LA CROSSE MET:
Alicia Meyer smacked two home runs and had two doubles on the day, and
Beth Wood recorded both wins as UW-Stout swept UW-La Crosse, 6-3, 4-3, in the Blue Devils' home opener at Williams Stadium April 21, 2018. In game one, Stout scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth as Wood hit a two-run home run to break a 3-3 tie. Meyer scored the third run of the inning on an error. Meyer was 3-for-4 in the game with two doubles and a home run, her first round-tripper of the season. In game two, the Eagles (13-11, 0-2 WIAC) tied the score in the top of the seventh. The Eagles' Sabrina Scardamaglia hit a sacrifice fly and Katie Block had an RBI single to tie the game. Stout loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning.
Mary Iliopoulos and Wood both reached on infield singles, then moved to second and third, respectively, on a passed ball. Meyer was given an intentional walk to load the bases and Iliopoulos came home on a wild pitch. Meyer hit a two-run rocket in the bottom of the first to give Stout the early lead.

UW-RIVER FALLS: Hannah Theobald leads the Falcons in average, hitting ..368 with 13 RBI. Kaia Dorn is hitting .359 with 11 RBI. Dorn has three home runs and Theobald two. Molly Kaspar has driven in a team-best 17 RBI. Hannah Stegeman and Payton Speckel have combined to start 21 of the teams' 24 games. Stegeman is 2-6 with 12 appearances, while Speckel is 1-11 in a team-best 17 appearances. Speckel has 30 strikeouts, while Stegeman has 23. Corrine Roe has made the Falcons other three starts and is 2-1 overall with 13 strikeouts. Last season, UW-River Falls' Kaia Dorn had a team-best .396 batting average, .441 on-base percentage and 11 stolen bases a season ago, while Molly Kaspar contributed a team-high 31 RBI. Noelle Senour had a team-high .675 slugging percentage and 10 home runs, and shared the RBI honor with Kaspar. Head coach Amber Dohlman entered the 2019 campaign needing one victory to reach 100 in her career. |

LAST TIME STOUT AND RIVER FALLS MET: UW-Stout used big innings in both games on their way to a 5-1, 9-3, WIAC sweep over UW-River Falls April 24, 2018m at Alumni Field. The two wins moves Stout into sole possession of second place in the WIAC and was the Blue Devils' fifth and sixth consecutive wins. Freshman

Beth Wood picked up her ninth win of the season, going the distance, striking out five and scattering five hits in the complete game effort. The Falcons broke up Wood's shutout bid with a run in the sixth inning. Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the second of the nightcap, Stout sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Blue Devils added three more runs in the third inning. NFCA RANKINGS: The Blue Devils are scheduled to play five teams that are currently ranked in the top 25 in the NFCA Coaches Poll. In the April 16 poll, St. Thomas is ranked fourth, MIT 13th, Luther College 16th and UW-Eau Claire 21st. Stout has played several teams that were ranked at some point during the season including: SUNY-Geneso, Calvin College, UW-Whitewater, UW-Oshkosh and Tufts University. |

WIAC PRESEASON POLL: The Blue Devils were selected to finish fourth, according to a
WIAC preseason poll. Two-time defending champion UW-Whitewater was picked to repeat, followed by UW-Oshkosh, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, UW-Platteville, UW-La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point.

COACHES: Blue Devil coach
Becky Iaccino (72-68 Stout / 90-86 overall) is in her fourth year as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Iaccino played professionally in Italy from 2003 to 2011 and with the Italian National team from 2005-07. She has been the head coach at Marian University where she was selected as conference coach of the year, and has eight years of experience as an assistant coach at Division I and III programs. (58-57, 76-75 before season began).
UW-RIVER FALLS: Amber Dohlman starts her fourth year as head softball coach in 2018-19. She will also serves UWRF's Director of Athletic Communication. Dohlman has been the head softball coach and assistant sports information director at Millikin University since 2012.She led the Big Blue to a 20-15 record in her first season as head coach. She has a 53-57 overall record as the head coach. She has been a member of the NCAA regional ranking committee (2013-15) and organized and ran the first ever Millikin Big Blue softball tournament. She has participated in several national coaching clinics and coordinated and conducted offense/defense clinics for youth aged 10-18. She served as an NCAA Championships game representative for the last three seasons. Dohlman has recruited and coached two All-Americans, 13 All-Region players, three All-CCIW players and 18 All-WIAC players
ST. THOMAS:
John Tschida is regarded among the elite coaches in college softball. He begins his 19th season as head coach of the Tommies in the 2018-19 academic year. In 2004 he became the first softball coach to win NCAA championships at two different schools. He reached 900 career victories in 2018, and coached his 1,000th college softball game in 2016. Tschida has been voted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was one of four coaches inducted in December 2016, bringing the elite Hall membership at the time to 73. In addition, John Tschida and his staff were named 2016 Division III Midwest Regional Coaches of the Year by the NFCA, their second such award in three years.
UW-LA CROSSE:
Chris Helixon is in his 14th season at UW-La Crosse. The Menomonie native has led the Eagles to four appearances in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Tournament in the last nine years. UWL hosted an NCAA Division III Regional for the first in school history in 2017, going 2-2. The Eagles finished 30-16 overall and 10-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in 2017, recording its 10th straight year of at least 20 overall victories. UWL's 30 victories are third-most in single-season school history.
