THIS WEEK'S GAMES: Weather is becoming the winner this season. Stout (13-8, 2-0 WIAC) was scheduled to host
UW-Oshkosh (13-9, 2-2 WIAC) Saturday, April 13 and
UW-Whitewater (13-7, 3-1 WIAC) Sunday, April 14. But those games have been moved to Whitewater where the amount of snow was well short of the nine inches in Menomonie. Stout will meet Oshkosh Saturday at 9 a.m. and tentatively will meet Whitewater at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Blue Devils were to travel to
UW-La Crosse (15-10, 3-1 WIAC), Thursday, April 11, but that game has been postponed to Monday, April 15.
UW-STOUT: Lead-off hitter
Mary Iliopoulos leads the WIAC in batting average at .471 with nine RBI. The Blue Devil junior is 32-of-68 with nine RBI.
Kyncaide Diedrich is hitting .391 (25-64) with 18 RBI. Diedrich had five RBI in a single game against UM-Morris and punched in six runs in a doubleheader with UW-Platteville.
Meghan Kelly is hitting .328 (22-67) with a team high 21 RBI. Kelly has a team-high eight doubles.
Jessica Daley is hitting .327 (16-49).
Alicia Meyer, while hitting .219, has been very productive, driving in 17 runs. Meyer has seven doubles among her totals. Meyer has a team-high three sacrifice flies, getting two against New Rochelle. |

Meghan Kelly two. Bruns is currently 4-2 overall in 11 appearances with an ERA of 2.18 and 14 strikeouts. Bruns has two saves. Kunstmann is 3-4 overall with an ERA of 4.32 over 11 apearances. Labahn is 4-0 over 32.2 innings with an ERA of 3.21 and has completed three games. Labahn leads the team in strikeouts with 19. Kelly generally comes on in relief, and will move from first to pitcher. She had thrown 12.0 innings and has an ERA of 2.92.
Madee Kleinschmidt has made three appearances and earned her first win, going 2.2 inning in relief against UW-Platteville.
THIEVERY: Iliopoulos and Diedrich are at it again on the base paths. Diedrich leads the WIAC in stolen bases, with 18 thefts in 19 attempts. Iliopoulos has 11 stolen bases in 15 attempts. Iliopoulos is ranked fourth in the WIAC in steals. Iliopoulos had four steals against New Rochelle. As a team, Stout is second in the WIAC in stolen bases with 50. With a combined 29 stolen bases, the duo has stolen more bases than five teams in the WIAC. Diedrich is currently 21st in the NCAA Division III in stolen bases, averaging 0.86 stolen bases per game. Mary Iliopoulos led the WIAC in batting average, posting a school and conference record-tying average of .500. She also topped the league with a .538 on-base percentage, 49 hits and 35 runs scored, while finishing third with a .673 slugging percentage and 23 stolen bases.
Kyncaide Diedrich had a team-high 23 RBI and three home runs, and placed second with a .412 batting average and 25 runs scored.
Melea Bruns, a 2018 All-WIAC honorable mention selection, is the top returnee on the mound after posting a 2.83 earned run average and six wins in 64.1 innings pitched a season ago. The Blue Devils were 23-12 overall and 9-5 in league play. The Blue Devils advanced to the WIAC tournament, finishing one game short of the conference tournament title game. |

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: With a one-day delay, the Blue Devils opened the home portion of their schedule by sweeping first-time opponent Bethany Lutheran College, 4-1, 9-4, April 8 at Alumni Field. Stout got out of a first inning jam in the first game and turned the momentum around to score four runs in the bottom of the first. In the second game, the Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead, then kept Stout silent until the third inning when the Blue Devils jumped into the lead with a five-run inning. The Vikings out-hit Stout 9-4 in the first game, but the Blue Devils tallied 13 hits in the second. |

UW-OSHKOSH: The Titans post the league's top team batting average and have eight every day players that are hitting .300 and better. Sidney Budzinski is hitting .417 (10-24), Natalie Dudek .389 (21-54), Amanda McIlhany .385 (25-65), Claire Petrus .362 (17-47), Acacia Tupa .341 (15-44), Abby Menting .318 (24-71), Kaitlyn Krol.315 (17-54) and Chloe Lambie .306 (15-49). Petrus, who also pitches for the Titans, leads the team in RBI with 18. Menting, the 2018 co-position player of the year, has driven in 13, Dudek 12, and McIlhany 11. Lambie has stole six bases and Tupa five. Bailey Smaney (9-3) has made 14 pitching appearances and 12 starts, posting a 2.60 ERA with 44 strikeouts. Smaney has thrown 70.1 innings. Petrus (4-6) has started eight games and has an ERA of 4.69 over 12 appearances. Smaney has thrown three shutouts, Petrus two. Smaney has completed nine games, and Petrus has five complete games.
UW-Oshkosh entered the season ranked No. 20 in the NFCA Poll and owns three-regular season titles. The Titans have made back-to-back NCAA appearances for the third time in program history. In 2018, Amanda McIlhany posted a team-best .374 batting average, while Acacia Tupa had a team-high 30 runs scored and .636 slugging percentage. Clare Petrus pitched 123.1 innings and accumulated 13 victories, a 2.61 earned run average and 50 strikeouts, while Bailey Smaney had a 2.70 earned run average, 11 wins and 61 strikeouts in 111.2 innings pitched. UW-WHITEWATER: The Warhawks pitching staff ranks sixth nationally in ERA with a combined team ERA of 1.53. Bella Matthias (7-1) is posting an ERA of 0.61 over 46.0 innings pitched, ranking seventh nationally. Matthias has given up on four earned runs, has struck out 66 - tops in the WIAC - and allowed only six extra base hits. Dani Biesiada (2-1) has and ERA of 1.35 with 16 strikeouts over 26 innings pitched, giving up only two extra base hits. Mathias was the WIAC pitcher of the week this week.after posting a 0.44 earned run average in three games during week to help the Warhawks score a 5-1 record for the week. Julie Camardo (4-5) has an ERA of 2.59 and leads the team in inning pitched with 51.1. She has recorded 33 strikeouts. The pitching squad has recorded 115 strikeouts, tied for first in the WIAC. 2019 Statistics
The Warhawks have compiled a conference-best 12 regular-season crowns and 10 tournament titles, including six straight. UW-Whitewater has won at least 30 games in eight of the last 11 seasons and made six consecutive NCAA appearances. Ranked No. 13 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Top 25 Preseason Poll, the Warhawks bring back reigning WIAC Position Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year in Vera Pflugradt and Julia Camardo, respectively. Pflugradt hit a team-best .372 a season ago and finished second on the team with a .511 slugging percentage. Camardo had a conference-high 14 victories and finished second in the WIAC with a 2.04 earned run average, 116 strikeouts and 123.1 innings pitched. Also returning is Caitlin Catino, who was successful in all 17 of her stolen base attempts and added 13 doubles and four triples, along with Bella Matthias, who secured WIAC Pitcher of the Year accolades in 2017. Matthias had a 2.34 earned run average, 10 wins and 107 strikeouts in 101.2 innings pitched during the 2018 campaign.
WHITEWATER LAST TIME OUT: The Warhawks split with UW-Oshkosh, April 9, winning the first, 5-0, but dropping the second, 5-4, in Oshkosh. In Game 1, junior Bella Matthias tossed her second straight shutout, allowing only one hit and two walks while striking out 10 in seven innings. She pushed her record to 7-1 with the win. UW-Whitewater used a five-run fifth inning to account for all its scoring. In Game 2, UW-Whitewater grabbed a 2-0 advantage with one run each in the first and second innings, but UW-Oshkosh plated one in the fourth before taking the lead for good with four in the bottom of the fifth. Whitewater is scheduled to host Concordia University Wisconsin, Thursday, April 11, but that doubleheader has been cancelled, and are scheduled to be at UW-River Falls, Saturday, April 13. |

LAST TIME STOUT AND WHITEWATER MET: It was a chilly day in Whitewater and it turned out to be a chilly day in the win column for UW-Stout as UW-Whitewater swept the Blue Devils, 10-5, 9-1, in a conference opening doubleheader at Van Steenderen Complex, April 8, 2018. The Warhawks scored six runs, aided by three Blue Devil errors, in the sixth inning of the first game to overcome a one run Stout lead, then used three big innings in the nightcap for the five inning win. |

UW-LA CROSSE: UW-La Crosse's Mia Schmidtke led the 2018 squad with a .707 slugging percentage, 33 RBI and 10 doubles. The Eagles also welcome back Stephanie Cole, who sat out the 2018 campaign due to injury, but had a team-leading .529 slugging percentage, 61 hits, 12 doubles and 32 RBI in 2017. Caitlyn Hughes compiled team highs of 88.1 innings pitched and 57 strikeouts a season ago. She claimed WIAC Pitcher of the Year recognition in 2016. |

LAST TIME STOUT AND LA CROSSE MET:
Alicia Meyer smacked two home runs and had two doubles on the day, and
Beth Wood recorded both wins as UW-Stout swept UW-La Crosse, 6-3, 4-3, in the Blue Devils' home opener at Williams Stadium April 21, 2018. In game one, Stout scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth as Wood hit a two-run home run to break a 3-3 tie. Meyer scored the third run of the inning on an error. Meyer was 3-for-4 in the game with two doubles and a home run, her first round-tripper of the season. In game two, the Eagles (13-11, 0-2 WIAC) tied the score in the top of the seventh. The Eagles' Sabrina Scardamaglia hit a sacrifice fly and Katie Block had an RBI single to tie the game. Stout loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning.
Mary Iliopoulos and Wood both reached on infield singles, then moved to second and third, respectively, on a passed ball. Meyer was given an intentional walk to load the bases and Iliopoulos came home on a wild pitch. Meyer hit a two-run rocket in the bottom of the first to give Stout the early lead.

NFCA RANKINGS: The Blue Devils are scheduled to play five teams that are currently ranked in the top 25 in the NFCA Coaches Poll. In the March 13 poll, St. Thomas is ranked fourth, MIT fifth, UW-Whitewater 11th, UW-Oshkosh 20th and UW-Eau Claire 22nd. The Blue Devils received 14 votes in the March 6 poll, but then dropped out without playing a game. Of their spring break trip opponents, SUNY-Geneso, Calvin College and Luther College are receiving votes. |

WIAC PRESEASON POLL: The Blue Devils were selected to finish fourth, according to a
WIAC preseason poll. Two-time defending champion UW-Whitewater was picked to repeat, followed by UW-Oshkosh, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, UW-Platteville, UW-La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point.
WIAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Stout has grabbed the tournament title once, that coming in 2005 at UW-Whitewater. Overall, Stout is 26-40 in WIAC tournament games. Stout finished second in 1995, a year the tournament was held in Menomonie. Stout last hosted the tournament in 2014.

COACHES: Blue Devil coach
Becky Iaccino (71-65 Stout / 89-83 overall) is in her fourth year as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Iaccino played professionally in Italy from 2003 to 2011 and with the Italian National team from 2005-07. She has been the head coach at Marian University where she was selected as conference coach of the year, and has eight years of experience as an assistant coach at Division I and III programs. (58-57, 76-75 before season began)
UW-OSHKOSH:
Scott Beyer enters his sixth season as UW-Oshkosh's head softball coach. He owns a 112-49 overall record with the Titans. Beyer has coached eight UW-Oshkosh players to 14 total all-region honors and eight players to 16 total all-conference awards, including 2015 WIAC Pitcher of the Year Sara Brunlieb and 2016 WIAC Co-PosItion Player of the Year Abby Menting. In 2014, a program record-tying five Titans received all-region accolades. In Beyer's first four seasons at the helm, UW-Oshkosh has established new school records in batting average, doubles, triples, home runs, stolen bases, slugging percentage and fielding percentage.
UW-WHITEWATER: Brenda Volk is in her 21st season at UW-Whitewater.
UW-LA CROSSE:
Chris Helixon is in his 14th season at UW-La Crosse. The Menomonie native has led the Eagles to four appearances in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Tournament in the last nine years. UWL hosted an NCAA Division III Regional for the first in school history in 2017, going 2-2. The Eagles finished 30-16 overall and 10-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in 2017, recording its 10th straight year of at least 20 overall victories. UWL's 30 victories are third-most in single-season school history.
