Blue Devils play DII Saginaw Valley even in second half

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich (December 1, 2019) - UW-Stout played NCAA Division II Saginaw Valley State University even in the second half, but could not overcome a first half deficit and the Cardinals downed the Blue Devils, 101-78, Sunday in an exhibition contest at James E. O'Neill, Jr, Arena. 

Saginaw jumped out to a 57-33 halftime lead. The Blue Devils outscored the Cardinals, 45-44, in the second half. For the game, Stout shot 45.6 percent from the floor, hitting 26 of 57 shots. In the second half, the Blue Devils shot 48.4 percent, hitting 15 of 31 shots from the floor and dropped in 8 of 16 second half 3-pointers. 

Luke Geiger hit three of his four total 3-pointers in the second half and scored 11 of his 14 points after the break. Preston Briggs and Matt Newman each scored all six of their points in the second half. 

Jon Ciriacks led Stout with 15 points, followed by Geiger's 14. TYreese Alexander scored 10 points. Kaden Koski matched a career high with eight points. 

The Cardinals Myles Beyleu lead all scorers with 27 points. James Toohey added 22 points, Malik Ellison 19 and Darnell Hoskins 15. The Cardinals forced 26 Stout turnovers and scored 33 points off turnovers, 20 in the first half. 

Stout returns to action when they travel to Milwaukee Wednesday, Dec. 4 to take on NAIA member Cardinal Stritch University at 7:30 p.m.
