BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
  • The Blue Devils had a pair of comebacks come up just short, falling 3-2 to Bethel University in the season-opener in Menomonie, Nov. 1, then took to the road and fell 5-4 at Marian University, Nov. 2.
  • In the first game of the year, Stout  made a two goal comeback, but fell to Bethel (1-0-0). With only 48 seconds left to play in the game, Jarrett Cammarata came up big for the Royals and scored on a power play goal.  In the first period, the Blue Devils came out firing and were outshooting Bethel 5-0. But the Royals were the first one to score. The goal came on Bethel's first shot of the game and was scored 3:30 into the game. The goal was scored by Luke Posner of the Royals and the goal was unassisted. The Royals' Luke Posner gave Bethel a 2-0 lead with his second goal of the night to close out the first period. Vladislav Sorokin scored his first collegiate goal just before the end of the second period and Lucas Carroll tied the game midway through the third period.  | Bethel Game Story and Statistics
  • UW-Stout spent the first period getting buried, then spent the rest of the game digging out, coming up just short in a 5-4 loss at Marian University Saturday.  For the second consecutive night, the Blue Devils (0-2-0) fell behind early, only to make a game of it after all. The Sabres sliced up the Blue Devils in the first period, jumping out to a 4-0 lead at the first intermission.  Stout took advantage of a power play opportunity - and an assist by goalie Evan Bisek - to get on the board in the middle of the second period. Bisek cleared the puck to Alex Nagel, who dished off to Konnar Dechaine at 10:17. The Sabres answered back two minutes later to resume their four goal lead as Yuri Chernichko scored his second goal of the game. It was all Stout after that and again, the Blue Devils used the power play Vladislav Sorokin scored at 15:34 of the second period on assists from Connor Chambers and Evan Butcher. For Sorokin, it was his second goal of the season. The Blue Devils scored twice within a 91 second span early in the third period to pull to within one goal. Nagel, assisted by Raphael Gosselin and Alex Bowe scored at 4:12 and Sorokin scored his second goal of the evening at 5:43, with an assist by Chambers. Stout had an opportunity late when Marian was whistled for a penalty and the Blue Devils pulled their goalie to take a 6-on-4 advantage. But Stout was unable to get the equalizer. Brady Meyers started the game, getting pelted for 17 shots in the first period, allowing four goals. Bisek came on in the second period and allowed one goal, which turned out to be the eventual game-winning-goal and was saddled with the loss. Bisek turned away 24 shots in just under two periods of work. Bisek's assist was the first by a Stout goalie since the 2015-16 season.  | Marian Game Story and Statistics

THE GUSTIES LAST TIME OUT
  • Gustavus got an opening weekend sweep Saturday night as they defeated Lawrence 4-3.. Lawrence struck first in the contest, just under three and a half minutes in to gain an early advantage. Gustavus was creating plenty of chances in the first period with 13 shots on net, but weren't rewarded for their efforts until 15:27 in when Brendan Elliott (So., Marquette, Mich) put the Gusties on the board with assists going to Casey Rock and J.P. Eykyn . 26 seconds later, the Black and Gold took the lead, with Reid Brown (Sr., Superior, Colo.) and Tyler Ebner  assisting a Brenden Payne goal that put Gustavus up 2-1. The Gusties took their 2-1 lead into the second period and added to it early. Ebner was able to get his first goal of the season 5:13 into the second frame, with an assist going to Payne. With the Gusties out to a 3-1 lead, Lawrence would respond with a power play goal 11:04 into the second period to trim the lead Gustavus lead to one. The Black and gold maintained their 3-2 lead into the third period, but the Vikings were able to get a short handed score to tie things up at three with just over five minutes remaining. The two teams would then go to overtime but it didn't take long for the Gusties to net the game-decider. Brown found Mason Etter who brought the puck up the left side and made a cross ice pass to Tyler Rockwho one-timed a left handed slap shot past the Viking goaltender for the win. Grancarov made his first collegiate start in net, making 23 saves, while allowing three goals.

STOUT'S RANKED HISTORY: The Blue Devils returned to the USCHO.com poll Nov. 19, 2018 and received a single vote in the Dec. 3 rankings before dropping out...the last time the Blue Devils were mentioned was with one vote in the Oct. 31, 2016 poll...The last time Stout was mentioned was Jan. 18, 2016...The Blue Devils returned to the USCHO.com Division III poll, Jan. 18, 2016, after nearly a four year hiatus, receiving five votes. A tie and two straight losses the following week dropped the Blue Devils out of the poll. Stout finished the 2008-09 season as the second ranked team in the USCHO.com poll. With the exception of the Nov. 17, 2008, USCHO.com poll, Stout had been ranked in the top 15 since the Nov. 13, 2006, poll. Stout made their first appearance in the poll on Nov. 27, 2000, when they received one vote, then moved up to 10th the following week. The 2008-09 season ending poll matched Stout's previous high mark of second in the Jan. 29, 2007, poll. Stout opened the 2009-10 season ranked third, their highest-ever season-opening ranking, but fell out of the polls midway through the season and returned to the top 15, Nov. 22, 2010. Stout was in the 2011-12 USCHO.com poll early in the season, dropped out, returned again, but dropped out. Stout returned to the poll after a win over top-ranked St. Norbert, Jan. 18, 2012, garnering eight votes in the Jan. 21, 2012, poll, effectively ranking the Blue Devils 19th. Stout returned to the poll in the early part of the 2012-13 season, receiving seven votes in the Dec. 3, 2012 poll before dropping out. | USCHO.com Division III poll

SCORELESS TIE: If fans were looking for scoring in the UW-Stout/Gustavus Adolphus College game Nov. 7, 2015, they went away disappointed. The scoreless tie with the Gusties was a first for UW-Stout, which has never had a scoreless tie in any of the program's varsity games, stretching back to 1968. Gustavus last season set an NCAA Division III record for ties with eight and one was a scoreless tie. According to Tim Danehy of collegehockeystats.net, scoreless ties are "not common obviously, but not that rare overall" across all divisions, both men and women, and appear to be on the rise. So far this year, six scoreless ties have been reported, but the Stout/Gustavus double goose eggs were the first of the season for Division III men. Last season there were 17 scoreless ties reported to collegehockeystats.net, of which six were Division III men, Danehy said. In 2013-14 there were nine total and 2012-13 had 10 total. The same night UW-Stout and Gustavus were going scoreless, the UW-Eau Claire women and St. Catherine played to a 0-0 decision.

ALL TIED UP: When the Blue Devils notched a 3-3 tie with St. Scholastica, Jan. 19, 2016, it tied a school record for most ties in a single season with four. The 2009-10 team and the 2004-05 team each finished with four ties. The Blue Devils snapped that record a week later, Jan. 28, when they forged a 2-2 tie with ninth ranked UW-Eau Claire, then finished with six in the final game of the season against UW-River Falls.

HOME ICE: The Dunn County Board in 2015 approved renaming the Dunn County Ice Arena the Fanetti Community Center in recognition of Marilyn Fanetti's contribution to fundraising efforts undertaken by the Menomonie Youth Hockey Association to remodel and add to the arena at the Dunn County Recreation Park. Fanetti donated $370,000 to the project and asked that the hockey arena and new community room be named for her family.

LIGHTING THE LAMP: It will now be easier to see when the the Blue Devils score. The Fanetti Community Center last summer received an upgrade in their lighting. The lighting in the ice arena was recently replaced with LED lights. The replacement was helped by Xcel Energy through their incentive program, Focus on Energy. The incentives offered by Xcel Energy and Focus on Energy - including bonus incentives through the program's limited-time Community Small Business Offerings (CSBO) campaign - helped offset the cost of the Menomonie Youth Hockey Association Ice Board's investment. | Complete Story

UP NEXT: The Blue Devils will travel to Augsburg University Thursday, Nov. 14 and to St. John's University, Saturday, Nov. 16.
