Stout falls to Scots in Michigan trip

ALMA, Mich (November 30, 2019) - UW-Stout had three players rack up double-digit scoring numbers, but the Blue Devils found themselves in too big a deficit early and lost at Alma College, 95-71, Saturday.

Alma (3-2) rolled to a double-digit lead in the first half and Stout (2-4) could not recover to find their way out.

After a back-and-fourth first six minutes where the score was tied three times and had three lead changes, the Scots shot out with an 8-0 run to turn an 11-10 deficit into an 18-11 lead, then built up to a 32-21 lead and the game was never closer.

The Scot controlled the game underneath, scoring 38 points in the paint compared to 18 for Stout. Alma pulled down 52 rebounds to Stout's 39. Alma also recorded 31 fast break points to Stout's 12, but were also able to pull up and hit 14 3-pointers to Stout's nine.

Stout's Luke Geiger recorded his first career double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Stout was led by Jon Ciriacks, who had 16 points, his sixth game of the season scoring in double digits. Freshman Cliff McCray had 12 points, his fourth game of the season in double figures. 

The Scots also had three players tally double digit points. led by Cole Kleiver's game-high 32 points. Kyle Woodruff had 22 points and Brandon Rake 11.

Stout shot 25 of 74 from the floor (.338), 9 of 23 from 3-point range (.391) and 12 of 18 (.667) from the line. The Scots hit 36 of 73 from the floor (.493), 14 of 29 from 3-point range (.483) and 9 of 11 (.818) from the line.  The Blue Devils were coming off a streak of four games where they had scored at least 90 points.

This was the first meeting between Alma and Stout. Stout continues their swing through Michigan Sunday, Dec. 1 when they play at NCAA Division II Saginaw Valley State in an exhibition game at 2 p.m. (Central Time).
