Minn-Morris 3, UW-Stout 2
MENOMONIE (November 1, 2019) - At times it looked like it might one of those magical Senior Days as UW-Stout several time dug their way out of holes they found themselves in. But alas, there was no magic this Senior Night as the Blue Devils were tripped up by Minnesota-Morris, 3-2, Friday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
After easily taking the first set 25-14, the Blue Devils (19-10) found themselves down 9-0 in the second set. But the Blue Devils chipped away and tied the score at 17 and went on to hold a 23-20 lead before the Cougars (15-11) tied the score at 23 all. The Cougars outscored the Blue Devils 4-2 down the stretch to take a 27-25 win.Â
The third set proved to be even for a quite a while as the two teams played to a 9-9 score before Morris went on a 9-3 run. stout got as six points a couple of times, but the Cougars prevailed, 25-19. Morris held a small lead throughout much of the fourth set before Stout broke a 15-15 tie and went on to a 25-20 win. In the final set,
Stout held an early lead, but the Cougars jumped out to a 7-4 lead. The Blue Devils came back to tied the score at 7-7. Once the Cougars regained the lead, they never relinquished it and won the set 15-12.
The Blue Devils had four players in double digit kills, led by
Lydia Kneubuehl's 15 kills.
Amber Ripley had 14 kills.
McKylie Hoff and
Lexie Nelson each had 11 kills. Nelson finished with 20 assists and
Jessica DuVal contributed 29 assists.
Brenna Tinjum led the Cougars with 13 kills. Tori Everson had 11 kills.Â
The Blue Devils will close out the season Saturday, Nov. 2 when they travel to UW-La Crosse for a noon match-up with the Eagles.
