UW-Stout 3, Luther College 0
ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 14, 2018) -
Amber Ripley may have missed last weekend's tournament at UW-Oshkosh, but the sophomore has made up for it her last two times out.
In a five set loss at Minnesota-Morris on Tuesday, Ripley pounded out 18 kills. In a 3-0 sweep over Luther College the first night of the Bethel University, Ripley outdid herself, punching out 17 kills in just three sets, averaging just over five kills per set. Ripley opened the match with seven kills in the first set. Stout won the match, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20.
In the final set, Stout stormed back from an early deficit, trailing by as much as six points early and by 19-15 when they made their move.
Kennedy Strain put down a pair of kills, sandwiched around a kill by setter
Jessica DuVal to go along with a Royals attack error, to tie the set at 19-19.
Luther took the lead on a Stout service error, but Strain had a block and a kill to give Stout a 21-20 lead. An error by Luther forced the Norse into a timeout, but it wasn't any better for Luther coming out of the timeout. Strain and DuVal combined for a block, Ripley put down a kill to make the score 24-20 and
Lexie Nelson recorded the match winner with a service ace.
Strain finished the night with 15 kills and had four total blocks.
Emili Cain finished with four total blocks and
Kara Simonson chalked up three blocks. DuVal had five kills, two total blocks and 42 assists.
Stout will play St. Olaf and Bethel University on the final day of the invitational Saturday.
